Study About The Modernity Of André Gide

The mainly purpose of this paper is to review the modernity characters in the thoughts and arts of Andre Gide, and to make it do some progress in the study about Andre Gide.The first chapter is a survey about the accepting process of Andre Gide in China. It can be divided into two periods: from 1920's to 1940's, from 1980's till now. Through analysing the conditions, it can be known that there were different viewpoints on Gide in the two periods, and it's the result of being effected by double elements, the author's personality and the accepting environment.The second chapter analysed several modernity idea subjects of Gide's works. Gide always showing his concern over humanity , he advocating the liberation of humanity, expressing the personal morality demand by revealing moral dilemmas, putting forward a "gratuit" principle to demonstrate the liberty nature of humanity.Also according to his idea of humanity,Gide showed his doubts to the reality of Soviet. All of the idea subjects have the significance of that period of time, and it shows the modernity consider of Andre Gide.The third chapter analysed the modernity feature in the works of Gide. Gide made a lot of experiments in the arts of modern storys, Les Faux-Monnayeurs was a representative work of Gide, which embodied Gide's idea about modern story in concentrate.In the ending, there is a survey about the works and ideas in all the life of Andre Gide, which summarized the modernity feature of Andre Gide , and showed double faces of Gide's modernity.
