| The Caizi-Jiaren Novel (CJN) should not be a definite (periodical) concept in a narrow sense, but a historial one in the broad sense of the term. Its heroes are Caizi-Jiaren, its theme belong to love romance, its literary form contain classical Chinese and popular one, its length type include short, medium and long-length novel. We can find its body from almost all sorts of novel such as gods and spirits, anecdote, classical Chinese legend, storyteller's script, zhanghui, long, short and medium-length novel etc. since pre-Tang dynasty to Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties in the context of Chinese novel history. Among them, Qing dynasty CJN in zhanghui style have the biggest influence.In the evolution of CJN, a character relationship mode full of vigour and innovation gradually formed, including five kinds of major and subordinate roles: Caizi, Jiaren, base person, parent, and helper.Generally, CJN including three kinds of novel i.e. classical Chinese legend, the script for story-telling, novel in zhanghui style mainly experienced a development course from the refined to the vulgar, from the stylized to pluralism, from single to the mixed when they developed into Ming and Qing dynasty zhanghui novel since Tang legend. Its complicated story can be divided into three major kinds and nine modes based on conflicts, characters and writing sense of propriety, which cannot be embraced by three stages mode theory spreaded now in acdemic circles.In the period of its splendor, CJN showed a characteristics of southern literature more and more clearly owing to the influnce of social, cultural, economical etc. factors.People's sight have been limited in the range of predecessors 's view for a long time, bringing about an identical criticism pattern put on the so-called formulism of CJN, hampering the continued further development of study after having had a definite achievements. The sad situation now produced by this point need to be changed quickly with our efforts together in the future. |
