Sculpture Park Study

The thesis commence the research according to processes of promoting, analyzing and resolving problem. On the first step,I firstly investigated the datum of western sculpture parks, analyzed the sculpture's upper limit in the foremost constructed sculpture parks ,and find out the fact that the main sculpture type is modern type.On the step of analyzing problem,I backwarded the origin of western sculpture park, enumerated the English phrases corresponding to the Chinese term "diao su gong yuan", researched the external form features and internal main elements of western sculpture parks according to many examples of western sculpture parks, pointed out that the contemporary western sculpture parks actually include three types: sculpture gardens, sculpture parks and sculpture trails. Subsequently, I analyzed their different external forms, artistic features and functions base on the examples of the Hirshhorn Museum Sculpture Garden of Washington D C, the Storm King Art Center of New York and the Grizedale Arts of England.The realistic values of the thesis mainly concentrate on the study of Chinese contemporary sculpture parks. I investigated and collected datum and iconographic materials of Chinese sculpture parks, carried up the development clues of Chinese sculpture parks, and described a graph to analyze the quantity and distribution of Chinese sculpture parks, compared their difference between artistic features , functions, sculpture selection, capital investments, social reflections with foreign sculpture parks, and pointed out the significance and value for fostering innovation by developing sculpture parks in contemporary China.On the step of resolving problem, I demonstrated my opinions to the development of Chinese sculpture parks: from the long-range point of view, we should actively construct new sculpture parks, and from the short term of view, we should slow down new construction if the artistic level of new parks could not be ensured. Finally, according to the comparison in artistic features, functions and sculpture selections of Chinese sculpture parks and foreign sculpture parks, put forwarded development principles of "gradual development" and "free choice by nature"...
