African American Feminist Literary Criticism

American black feminist literary criticism, which was first put forward in the 70s of 20^th century, has developed some theoretical discourses and become an important force that should not be ignored in American literary field. Black feminist literary criticism has extended and developed traditional feminist literary criticism, and it not only has changed the issues and connotations of traditional feminist literary criticism but also has offered a new critical perspective. The black feminist literary critics believe that sex is not the only element that affects women's life. For the first time in critical field, they introduce the racial element into feminist literary criticism. In doing so, black feminist literary criticism becomes the first signs of identity critique. And black feminist literary critics are the first to criticize the racial superiority complex and cultural hegemony existing in feminist literary criticism. The black feminist concepts are actively responded by the feminist literary critics in the Third World. Black feminist literary criticism is one of the conditions that arose post-colonial feminist criticism.Racism and sexism discussed by black feminist literary criticism are problems that span the national boundaries, and they could be referred to in the native studies by scholars from different nations. Black feminist literary criticism has practical significance to any regions where exist male cultural hegemony or racial superiority complex. Because black feminist literary criticism springs from the marginalized group of the hegemonical country, and it embodies the concepts of opposing hegemony and advocating equality and justice, it has great illumination to those who get the similar pursuit. It provides also some important reference for Chinese feminists.In China, the study on feminist literary criticism has developed quickly, yet the study on black feminist literary criticism shows its weakness. Under these conditions, the present dissertation tries to wholly and systematically study black feminist literary criticism, referring to feminist literary criticism. The study not only shows the solicitude toward the marginalized weak groups but also expects to expand the solicitude to all women and even all human beings, so that it can exalt the racial morality responsibility to the understanding of the meaning of life.
