The Subversion And Reconstruction The Awareness Of Culture

Doing a research on the cultural awareness of the May 4^th Movement is a challenging task to me. There are two reasons for my saying so. First, the study of cultural awareness is a sub-branch of cultural studies; and there are already a good number of influential works on this subject, so it is a complicated task for anyone who wants to initiate a new frame of concepts or ideas. Secondly, cultural awareness is a complex system; obviously it is impossible to do an all-embracing study of all the elements in this system; thus how to select some representational elements for study so that the whole system can be learned about poses another problem for us. The most intricate part of the work is to know which elements are representational. Books and papers I have so far read all hold vague views with reference to this. It involves a large degree of difficulty to make the elements I choose seem well-grounded. Given the fact that we don't have methodological tools to borrow because scholars at home all seem to take a shunning attitude towards doing a research on various concrete forms of cultural awareness simultaneously, my research can only be considered a fresh attempt.I choose cultural awareness as the topic of my thesis for the following reasons: the study of the cultural awareness of the May 4^th Movement can lend itself to the investigation of the deeply rooted reasons why during the May 4^th Movement unprecedented transformations took place in culture and literature; drawing an outline of the cultural awareness of the May 4^th Movement will enable us to know clearly how it evolved and what internal rules governed the May 4^th Cultural and Literary...
