This thesis named the study on the development of modern Chinese loan words that falls into five chapters.Chapter one: the preface. It introduces the situation of the research on Chinese loan words in brief and accounts for the instructional theories and study methods of the thesis.Chapter two: the category of Chinese loan words. At first we retrospect the argument about the range of Chinese loan words. Based on the epistemology and prototype theory of cognitive psychology, conclude that Chinese loan word is a fuzzy set and fuzzy category, which has its prototype. And then calculate the degree of membership of the words between Chinese native word and foreign word for Chinese loan words. At last, we confine the object of this study.Chapter three: the comparison of the two climaxes of loan words absorbing inmodern Chinese. We compare the loan words of Qingmominchu with those of the New Age. By statistical calculation on the two loan words stocks, we object the changes of the loan word form Qingmo at such aspects as the sources of the words, the methods of Chinese borrow them, etc.Chapter four, the localization of the loan words, consist of the phonetic localization , the localization of the characters, the localization of signification and the localization of grammatical rule. And then we try to look into the self-identity of Chinese people give to the loan words. In the last, we pay attention to the competition between the words of transliteration and those by free translation.Chapter five, the changes of modern Chinese related to loan words. We conclude that by borrow words from other foreign languages the Chinese lexicon has been enlarged, and its expression ability has been enhanced, and there are more and more diplophonic words. Along with the changes of modern Chinese, the system of Chinese characters has taken some adjustments.This thesis is based on the lexicology, general linguistics, epistemology, the prototype theory of cognitive psychology and the theory of lexicon changes with the society.
