In 1872, Shenbao published Gullivers Travels, the first translated novel in modern China. In 1911, the late Qing Dynasty was ended. During the period, Chinese society and culture fluctuated and changed heavily. In the background of Dissemination of Western Learning, the situation and concept of literature, as well as the format&content of literature creation and dissemination of the literature were totally different from the past. Wherein, the translated novels led the ethos, and upraised the novel from the "bagatelle" to the "superior literature" , which resulted in that someone marveled in 1906 that "the world ten years ago was the world of Baguwen (Eight-Principle Article),but suddenly it has become a novel world " (Yin Bansheng). During the booming of modern "novel" , the first climax for translating the foreign novels in Chinese history came out. One essential feature of the novels was that most of them were published in newspapers and magazines before published as offprint. At that time, not only the literature magazines, especially the professional novel magazine, but also the daily newspapers and other kinds of newspapers published novels. The translated novels in modern China came in and developed along with the booming of the print and media industry.By combining these two aspects, this article pays attention to study the features of the translated novels and their relationship with the newspapers and magazines, i. e. learning the track of the translated novels' development and building up the historical feeling as per their traces. In fact, all translated novels in this article are reviewed due to the historical fact of how they were published, read and commented in China, while the importance of novels in the world literature history is not the reason why they are concerned.The information of the translated novels and newspapers/magazines which published these novels, should be reviewed first so as to fulfill this article' s mission.
