This paper analyzes the features of the Uyghur Language and the Amis Language in three areas. The first area are the features connected with typological characteristics, the second are the features connected with basic sentence patterns, and the third are the special features unique to each language. This paper attempts to discover the constrasting features between the Uyghur Language and Amis Language by applying methodologies of descriptive linguistics and contrastive linguistic. The Uyghur Language belongs to the Altaic Family and Turkic Sub-Family, while the Amis Language belongs to the Austronesian Family and Indonesian Sub-Family. These two languages have no relative relationship, but they are both typical agglutinating languages. This paper analyzes the agglutinative features of these two languages. The basic sentence pattern of the Uyghur Language is SOV; whereas, the basic sentence pattern of the Amis Language is VSO. The opposite placing of V greatly influences these two languages. This paper analyzes these influences by comparing them with the article 《Some universals of grammar with particular reference to the order of meaningful elements》 by Joseph H. Greenberg. This paper consists of eight chapters which can be briefly divided into five parts:Part 1 (chapter 1): The part introduces the history, development, andstudy of the Uyghur Language and the Amis Language; reason why this is a valuable topic and the framework of the paper.Part 2 (chaptre2, 3, 4): This part analyzes the contrasting features of the Uyghur Language and the Amis Language. The phonological features studied include assimilation, dissimilation, sound insertion and sound deletion. The word features include two types: 1. These two languages both use a great deal of derived structures and reduplicative compounds. 2. The features of quantifier and number are affected by agglutinative features. The syntactic features are added as the affixes to nouns, verbs and adjectives to express "number", "case", "degree", "time", "aspect", "voice" etc.Part 3 (chapter 5): This part analyzes the affixation, preposition, postposition, possession, modification and comparative sentences which connect with the basic sentence pattern. This analysis is done through comparison with Joseph H. Greenberg's article (mentioned previously).Part 4 (chapter 6, 7): This part introduces the unique features of these two languages. The phonological feature include the vowel harmony and consonant harmony of the Uyghur Language. For the Amis Language, phonemic merger, allophone and phonemic intersection are explored. The word features include the compound word formation of the Uyghur Language and the reduplicative compound of Amis Language. The author also analyzes some special pairs of speech, eg. the copula, auxiliary and adjectives of the Uyghur Language. In the Amis Language, the verb, some nouns which have case change, case helper and adjectives are reviewed.Part 5 (chapter 8): This part concludes the first four parts by contrasting the affixation and formative style in the Uyghur and Amis. It can be concluded that: in the Uyghur Language, one affix can be a word formative affix or a formative affix, but can not be both. However, in the Amis Language, one affix can be both. The Uyghur Language uses more affixative formation than the Amis Language. In the end, the author still analyzes some new materials about embeding structure and the predication of the Amis Language.
