| Verbs are the main grammatical category which express ideas and have been the focus of grammatical studies. It plays a decisive role in the phrase structure of a language. It has its specific function and role. Though our predecessors' classification and studies of Mongolian verbs are the base of our present study, but their studies were more subjective oriented but not formalized. Formalization can be done by means of mathematical or logical methods, and it finds out and establishes simple and efficient rules or principles, and simplifies many complicated descriptions of linguistic facts. So it has strong feature of generalization. Furthermore, a computer couldn't straightforwardly recognize natural language of human beings, and we have to implement it by the medium of formalized language. So formalization is very necessary. Because of the rich morphological features of verbs in Mongolian language, it is very important to study this kind of features in the frame of generative syntax and this kind of study has very big potential usage. The result of this study, with the descriptive linguistic achievements, can not only be the base of grammatical rules for exposing the commonality of languages, but it also has very important significance and value in the field ofMongolian information processing technology. Therefore, this paper, based on previous research results, studies Mongolian verbs by applying subcategorial rules and light verb theory of generative grammar. This paper consists of five parts: preface, the subcategorical features of Mongolian verbs, the selectional restrictions and theta-roles and arguments, the voice of Mongolian verbs and the conclusion.Chapter one mainly describes the topic of this paper, the meaning and value of such a study, the methods which are applied in this paper and relevant studies by other scholars etc.Chapter two discusses the subcategorical features of Mongolian verbs. It is the main part of this paper.Chapter three mainly discusses selectional restrictions, theta-roles and arguments which are closely related to the subcategorical features of verbs.Chapter four mainly discusses the voice of Mongolian verbs and the position and case of arguments by applying light verb theory.Chapter five is the conclusion of this paper.
