The publication of Orientalism by Edward W.Said in 1978, one of the most important literary critics of the day, symbolized the systemaltization and theorization of post-Colonial theories. By creating the new pattern of how to analyze the ways to study the cultural theory in modern Europe, centering on ethnics, imperialism and ethnicity. The post-colonial theories explore the cultural colonization hidden under the global context, describe ideological genes of the cultural colonization handed down from one generation to another, and reveal all means of destorting the orient by using various language symbols in order to provide a new theoretical mirror for the orient or the third world countries when they attempt to understand the other and self and construt their subject and cultural identity. In china, people value and study the post-colonial theories mainly because they urgently hope that they can find out the real reasons for inequality, schemes and traps they suffer in the process of realizing modernization and involving in the globalizaion and seek good ways to voice their own opinions so that they meet various challenges in a mild and tolerant way and eventually make themselves grow in strength through dialogue, discussion and communication. The thesis first analyzes the contributions and defects of the post-colonial theories and then puts forward new profound views on how to construct our subject and cultural identity.Ideology exerts a great influence on and stipulates relations among contries and cultral exchanges as well as various subjects inside a country. It is a good wish for every country, especially for the third world countries, to construct relatively self-sufficient subject, and equally participate in various exchanges and communications among countries. However, they have great difficuties realizing this wish in the unequal globalization process. And literature, as a political barometer, plays an important role in constructing subject and cultural identity. The thesis presents the core concept "beyond choice" which means beyond the ideology, realistic choice of imaginary profits of the other and beyond the limitations of the approaches and patterns set by the other. But it is more important and difficult to surpass self's identification with ideology, regional and political imagination, review self's construction of behavioral and thinking habits and cultural psychology and give up the dream of returning to self and traditional and pure identity. Instead of simply imitating, taking single rational or irrational attitude toward construction, the third world countries should be practical and construct a controllable subject by means of communications with the other, confidently voice own desires and demands and find a legal and reasonable position for self. These are the correct attitudes these countries take and the right choice they make.
