The purpose of the thesis is to study the structure of the French spectral music—The thesis puts stress on the first generation composers Gerard Grisey,Tristan Murail' works of spectral music and analyzes the theory of acoustics the works reflect, with the analysis of the world-famous post spectral composers' works as proofs, which belong to the second generation composers of spectral music. The thesis reveals the essence of the sound which constitutes the spectral music with the help of the electronic appliance and the computer's analysis of frequency spectrum. The thesis discusses the achievements the spectral music by applying acoustics and electronics in traditional musical instruments and sums up some new achievements on melody shape, harmonic building, polyphony, music form and orchestration according to the customary classification of music courses. Furthermore, the thesis sums up the organize structure of the spectral music. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is about the building and the application of theory and it has five chapters, including the basis of the frequency spectrum, the use of Overtone, the power's element caused by musical structure, pitch materials of the spectral music and the sound synthesize of the spectral music. The second part is to prove the arguments appeared in the first part with examples. This part is divided into six chapters according to the customary classification of music course. There are eleven appendixes at the end of the thesis, including the formula for calculating, data from experiments, sound graphs of frequency spectrum, related laws, graphs of the spectral music and an index of related composers and their works, which are very important for the thesis. In the appendixes, some specialized terms of mathematics, physics and acoustics are seldom used by musicians, but they are necessary for the thesis, because they are scientific evidence for the arguments.
