The Study On The Variants In Xuan Ying Yin Yi

As the existing earliest Interpretation of Pronunciations and meanings in Buddhist sutra,Xuan Ying Yin Yi,is not only one of the Buddhism collection,but also a famous work for linguistic study.It has 25 volumes and contains plenty of content involving with various social and cultural aspects of religious,philology,language,literature,art and the history of communication between China and other countries.It is of essential academic value with regards to philology,linguistic,and research on traditional culture.The versions problem of Xuan Ying Yin Yi is still a puzzle for academic study.Basic on two important versions,Gaoli Collections and Qisha Collections,the paper compared Xuan Ying Yin Yi with another important version Hui Lin Yin Yi which copied many contents from Xuan Ying Yin Yi. The paper mainly combined linguistic with philology,further collected and selected the related materials thoroughly,compares and corrects word by word the difference and similarities of various versions which include Dunhuang scrolls,Japanese scrolls,Gaoli Collections,Qisha Collections and the contents Hui Lin Yin Yi copied from Xuan Ying Yin Yi.We want to solve the circulation of its versions and the complicated original relations among the three versions.After exploring,we have many new discoveries:we found out at least five new Buddhist scriptures in Hui Lin Yin Yi;some of Buddhist scriptures in Xuan Ying Yin Yi were combined with aother;Hui Lin Yin Yi used the different way to choose and rewrite the different translations about the same Buddhist scripture in Xuan Ying Yin Yi;some contents Hui Lin Yin Yi copied from Xuan Ying Yin Yi are similar with Gaoli Collections,some are similar with Qisha Collections,and also some are same in different three versions;not only to be rewrote in Hui Lin Yin Yi,but also in Qisha Collections Xuan Ying Yin Yi was rewrote.We selected three Buddhist scriptures'Yin Yi,including Dazhidulun, Zhengfanianjing and Tuoluonizaji,to compare their contents differences and similarities,finally we found they are similar with Qisha Collections.We also investigated 21 Buddhist scriptures which existing in Gaoli Collections but lost in Qisha Collections and 5 Buddhist scriptures which existing in Qisha Collections but lost Gaoli in Collections,we found that most of 21 Buddhist scriptures which existing in Gaoli Collections but lost in Qisha Collections were copied or rewrite in Hui Lin Yin Yi,and no Buddhist scripture which existing in Qisha Collections but lost Gaoli in Collections is still in Hui Lin Yin Yi. According to the investigation results,we made a corollary on Hui Lin Yin Yi:It is an independent version,different from Gaoli Collections and Qisha Collections,Xuan Ying Yin Yi that Hui Lin read was a mixture which mixed Gaoli Collections and Qisha Collections together.Xuan Ying Yin Yi incorporates the wordbook of Shuowen series,lexicon of Erya series,rhyming dictionary of Qieyun series and critical word explanation of ancient classics,annotating words and expressions needed to be explained in the Buddhist Sutra.In some way it would be regarded as a relatively complete summary of all the using words at that time,more or less reflecting the real condition of the language in Han and Tang Dynasty.It is the gem for study of the history of Chinese language,specially about Chinese characters.There are so many variants among Xuan Ying Yin Yi's different versions,even if in the same version there are also many different Chinese character forms.From studying these characters,we can know the development of the history of Chinese characters,specially about the Chinese characters history from Tang Dynasty to Song Dynasty.On the basis of this, we puts forward that there is a synchronously evolution in the history of Chinese characters.Ziti(å­—é«”) is Xuan Ying's important conception which reflected Xuan Ying's philological views about Chinese characters,he explained word meaning in the light of its structure,and its pronunciation.Xuan Ying Yin Yi is a book like dictionary for Buddhist scriptures,so it is a valuable material for us to study Buddhist scriptures.We select Xianyujing to study its history editions and words by the help of Xuan Ying Yin Yi.
