| The theme of this article contains three parts: Sanyu as a representation of Chinese modern artists, modernity of Chinese fine arts, and the relationship between the two above. Sanyu, who lived in Paris at 1920s-1960s, the period of the great historic transition, whose achievements and influence of his activities for arts, can be a reflection of the development of Chinese modern art movements, and also provides another possible way for Chinese modern art as the supplement of realism which at that time is the only choice of Chinese art movements. Sanyu uses an orient modern poetic language of impressionistic style (xieyi) in his paintings, and in that way, a kind of modernity never ruptures from tradition to modern comes into being.The thesis takes Sanyu as an example, pays attention to facts in history, synthetically expatiates on Sanyu's education, the modern spirit of his art, the evolvement of his personal style, and his efforts on propagandizing for Chinese culture.There are five chapters in the article:â… .Introduction;â…¡.Sanyu's Knowledge Structure and Modern Spirit;â…¢. Each chapter emphasizes particularly, proceeds with a study aiming at modern artist Sanyu, his works and correlative events, and digs out the particularity of Sanyu'art as well as its influence. Furthermore, trends of art in China around the thirties at the last century, various phenomenons and misconceives in temporal complex social background and cultural context crowned by modernity are all analyzed. At the same time, the significance of the alternative modernity of Chinese fine arts created by Sanyu and other modern artists emerges. It is just this significance reveals the non-disrupted particularity of Sanyu's impressionistic style (xieyi), which uses a modern poetic language rebels and invents, expresses Chinese traditional culture and aesthetic spirit while criticizing and inheriting them. Finally, in a multidimensional visual angle, diversiform aesthetics and artistic forms has been recurred by modernity of Chinese fine arts in the 1970s, and under this situation viewed, the modernity of Sanyu's art is connected with modernity of Chinese fine arts, objective historical context has been reverted and reconstructed, also a new culture map has been drawn: the worthiness of Sanyu and other artists then is rightly conformed.That generation of artists including Sanyu constructed a new situation of art language different from the language of western modern art, enriches the content as well as widens the borderline of modernity of Chinese fine arts.
