In this paper,the building history of the teaching in the Sculpture Department of CAFA(Central Academy of Fine Arts) in the 1950s will be showed,and it is hoped that it can reproduce one aspect of Chinese art in that period.In the early of 50s,based on experience of "Yan' an Art" and Soviet Union,an effective system of literary management and organization was established in fine art creation and education in new China.At the same time,because of the political ideology that art "for politics","services for the worker-peasant-soldier",a set of external "norms of theories" was established.On the one hand,art creation and teaching practices have walked actively along the norms of theories,and on the other hand,they often showed "not suited" and "inconsistent." Such practices in the Sculpture Department of CAFA often unconsciously went beyond the requirements of these external norms,which represented the insistence on the regularity of art creation and education.At the request of the art "services for politics",the Sculpture Department of CAFA opposed the view of "pure technique" and "unified teaching method",but its teaching practices often represented persistence in the regularity,systemic and "technical" of plastic arts teaching.As an amendment to the requirement that art "services for politics" was "simply" carried out,in 1953 Zhou Yang put forward the "Socialist Realism" theory,in the hope of overcoming the tendency of "Formulation" and "Conceptualization" in art creation,and then creation and teaching practices began to run after such "Theory First" once again, and also involved in a new conflict.While implementing the "Socialist Realism" theory,the Sculpture Department's teaching comprehensively learned experience of the Soviet Union,but its teaching practice did not rigidly adhere to "Socialist" political demands in the "Socialist Realism". The Sculpture Department persisted in the "realism" orientation of the art, and attached importance to the scientific and law of the art teaching. The Sculpture Department,together with the teaching model of the Soviet experts,and based on Soviet sculpture teaching syllabus,established a more systematic,standardized and "scientific" teaching system.The "standardized" teaching practices in the Sculpture Department of CAFA were expanded in the "Theory First" pattern in 1950s,and while going after and conflicting with the external "norms of theories", creation and teaching also made adjustment to the art's external norms, and the Sculpture Department of CAFA had established the education pattern during those two large teaching changes.Since 1958,the education system of sculpture department has been systematically established.
