The relationship between literature and moralizing-education has long been one of the important topics that receive a great deal of attention. As is known to all, literature and morality are inseparable to each other, or we can say literature is kind of carrier of morality. Though it arouses a great deal of doubt, it has long been a closed conclusion in terms of literature-morality relationship. However, new challenges have come with the new epoch, so we need to further reflect on the relationship between literature and morality. Rejected by some people, moralizing education by literature no doubt remain effective and influential since the implicit factors underlying the moralizing-education function of literature still exist. In all, the solution to the problems in reality, such as slump in morality and rigid education, is to give it more scope to the moral life, making moral education more social, practical, open, tolerant and permeable which then develops into moralizing-education and construction of social moral system. In the new epoch, morality that suffers crisis should be given new content and form. It should overlap and merge with other disciplines, e.g. literature, ecology, to help human beings understand themselves and make a complete set of rules for their existence to the greatest extent. Therefore, this work tries to expand the traditional moralizing-education concept, which mainly concerns the relation of human to human, in space into relations of human to society, nature and ego, and in time into relations of human to past (history and tradition), now (reality and fashion), and future (human existence and possibilities).Around the interrelation of literature and moralizing-education, this work intends to explore into the circumstances of modern moralizing-education in Chinese society and the problems it faces. It is no doubt a challenging and sensitive topic in China after implementation of the reforms and opening policy. Different from other works that discuss the relationship between literature and moralizing-education through literature study, this work will not only analyze the phenomena and influence of moralizing-education in literature but also explore why and how literature carries out moralizing-education by discussing the approaches to moralizing, as well as its differences from other approaches to moralizing. At the same time, the work will further discuss the specialty of literature moralizing-education, studying moralizing-education from the angle of literature and elaborating on the special rules of morality. First this work will define moralizing-education and clarify "cliche moral norms" and "true moral spirit". The way and carrier of moralizing-education will be further discussed. This work makes full inquiry about the inner meanings of literature from the perspective of moralizing-education. It continues to stress the importance of moralizing-education in literature, the purification effect of literature on society, and the sense of moral responsibilities of the writers and critics. Also it will discuss the essential relations between literary styles, morals and spiritual construction, and how literature carries out moralizing-education. In which literature is moralizing-education manifested? How do literature moralizing-education and pursuit of literary art conflict with each other in literary works? This work will analyze the reasons why contemporary circumstances of literature have weakened its function of moralizing-education and the impact on the readers for the loss of literature moralizing-education. Also it deals with the differences between Chinese and Western concepts about literature moralizing-education. It finally aims at the discovery and application of aesthetic study in moral education.Specifically, the research starts from the following understanding: the essence of moralizing-education is to shape healthy personality and bring happiness and harmony to individuals. It must follow the voluntary wills of the object of education. All the same, for quite a long time, people tend to emphasize the "demand from outside" and "shape by others" of moral education. The forceful way of moral education makes it quite inefficient. To make moral education aesthetic is an effective way to change the situation. Here morals not only refer to knowledge but also feeling, will and act. The course of moral education is more than the process of knowing and it's also the process of shaping feelings, building character, cultivating habits and uplifting the whole self. In all, it requires the entire input of spiritual elements. Morality refers not to "chiche moral norms" but to "true moral spirit"; here moral education, likewise, mainly means flexible and effective use of aesthetic elements in moral education, which makes moral education beautiful in terms of contents and form. The starting point of this work is how to make moral education aesthetic so as to effectively influence the moral level of readers. Here to make moral education aesthetic is to introduce literary elements into moral education at the right time, actively make use of social value effects of literature, and make it a functional approach to moral education. At the same time, as a kind of spiritual phenomenon, literature studies all kinds of relationships while morality is actually the relationship between people. Though literature is subject to the influence of morality, literature will have its influence on morality in return. In other words, literature in itself is equipped with a unique moralizing function. This work emphatically conducts a theoretical study of aesthetic approach to moralizing-education based on case analysis. The following issues will be explored: essence of moral, nature of moralizing, meaning of literature, value of literature as well as its status in the social structure; the effect of literature on social morality and its function; the approach to moralizing education by literature; strengthen moral construction in literature, improve moralizing-education, construct social morality, and so on. Among them, the latter three are the key points. This work comes to a theoretical conclusion that: literature has the function of inheriting, constructing, and maintaining social morality. And it comes to a practical conclusion that: on the one hand, effort should be made to illustrate literary phenomenon constructed on moral bases, strengthen moral construction in literature, upgrade the moral level of social members, and make full use of the influence of literature on social moral construction; on the other hand, literature in the moral background should be understood in another way, and no single moral standard should be adopted in reviewing or criticizing a literary work. Specifically, as a kind of spiritual phenomenon, though literature is subject to the influence of morality, literature will have its influence on morality in return. In our study, the unique moralizing function of literature should not be neglected. The work is made up of six chapters. The prelude reveals the origin, content, and approach of the research, and based on the current situation, puts forth the main theme of the article. The theme of the article is "literature should meet its responsibility of moral construction". The article attempts to coordinate aestheticism and morality and demonstrate their uniformity and differentiate itself from the usual understanding that contrasts literature to morality. Chapter One and Chapter Two elaborates on the nature, origin, value, meaning, creative principles of literature, the nature of morality, the essence of moralizing, approach to moralizing and its manifestations, and so on. A systematic analysis is given to the interrelation of literary and moralizing-education. Chapter Three systematically analyzes the cultural and value bases of moralizing-education by literature from the angles of Chinese and Western history of philosophy and literary creation, accounting for the essence of moralizing-education by literature. Chapter Four aims at linking discussion of aesthetic nature to that of morality. By analyzing and explaining the relation and differences between beauty and goodness, the chapter makes a further inquiry about moralizing-education of literature. In Chapter Five, how to analyze and evaluate literary works by using the moralizing-education theory is discussed, shaping basic aesthetic principles for the value orientation of writers. Chapter Six reflects on the goal of moralizing-education by literature. Considering the adversity of morality and literary creation, this work emphatically points out that literature should provide spiritual bases for construction of social morality.
