The spirit of life in the Book of Changes had a profound effect on Chinese aesthetics. The spirit embodies the laws of the universe, which also is the spirit of life and arts. To the man, the spirit is ceaseless self-improvement, vigorous, and broadened minded, firmness. To the arts, the spirit of is the content, form and pursuit.The study of the book of changes'aesthetics had afforded a magnificent spectacle. But the system study on the spirit is rare. This paper would give a comprehensive and systematic interpretation, which would combine YI-jing and YI-zhuan; image-number and philosophical connotations; Confucian classics annotates my thought and my thought annotates Confucian classics and interpret and demonstrate Yi by Yi itself; parallel comparison; the combination of philosophy, life and arts to be an overall; dynamic three-dimensional inspect.This paper would research the spirit of the book of changes in four parts: the Sheng's content, trait and value; the internal reaction of the spirit; the aesthetic creation of the signs of life; the aesthetic expression of the spirit.Sheng is an ontological fundamental category. Sheng means reproduction, creation and change, which spirit foot on universe and universe is not a mechanical physical place, is a vital, dynamic and goes on without end. Sheng has universality in terms of space, continuity in terms of time, transcendence in terms of human beings which is the mixture of man and universe. From the value point, Sheng is truth which means the laws. Sheng is virtue which means purpose; Sheng is also beauty which means integration of purpose and laws. Sheng is the integration of truth, virtue and beauty. Yuan, Heng, Li, Zhen typically embodies the life spirit of integration of truth, virtue and beauty.The laws of the Book of Changes'creation are mainly embodied in Yin and Yang, which includes interaction and change of life. Yin and Yang embodies two relations: interaction and change. Gan and Hua embody interaction; and Bian and Tong embodies change. Gan and Hua foot on opposition; Bian and Tong foot on conversions. While Shi and Zhen; Zhong and He mainly embodies generating principle. Shi is mainly about variability and Zhen is mainly about invariability, which are both opposite and complementary to each other. Shi and Zhen are not only the principle of universal generating but also mainly the principle of living. Zhong is mainly about order of life and He is mainly about the harmony of life. Only Zhong can be He, only He can the life be over and over again. The laws of life embodies strong consciousness of Zhong and He,which is also the principles and norms of arts.Guan-Wu-Qu-Xiang focuses on the aesthetic creation of the signs of life, which is foot on the production of the images. The spirit of life is not only in the laws of universe, but also in the experience. Guan-Wu-Qu-Xiang is the principle of the creation of Xiang, which also embodies the spirit of life in the book of changes. Xiang is the core of the book of changes, which aim is to convey sense. Xiang'creation can be summarized by Guan-Wu-Qu-Xiang. Guan is the observation of life, which is the base of Xiang. Wu is the object of Guan, which is also the source of Xiang. Wu has the nature of contact, analogy and metaphor. Qu is the way of Xiang'creation, the principle of hexagram and line creation is simple, abstract and virtual and is inseparable from life. The analogy and symbol in the hexagram and line statements and expressing itself embodies the wisdom of life of everything as one. The way of expression of Xiang is determined by the way of Guan-Wu-Qu-Xiang. Hexagram and line and hexagram and line statements are all visual display Xiang, which reduce the restriction of logic and one-dimensional language to creation of the visual images. The language which is vague, virtual and visual can be better empress itself. The expression can be called as Xiang–language.The endless life is not abstract reason, but is embodied by number, images, the pattern of masculine and femininity and the state of harmony of anxiety and happiness. The number in the book of changes is the abstract of life, which also the organic entity, which has the characteristics of the nature of mobility, rhythm, growth and organic unity, and fully embodies the form of life. The spirit also embodied by the pattern of Yang-gang and Yin-rou which is different and Cooperative. The spirit devolves out into the man; it is the state of the harmony of anxiety and happiness. From the number, hexagram and line, the pattern of Yang-gang and Yin-rou and the state of the harmony of anxiety and happiness all embody the spirit of the book of changes.All in all, the spirit of life is the spirit of universe, which influences the traditional of art and life. The spirit of arts, the spirit of personality and the spirit of nation all embody the spirit of ceaseless creativity, change and communication.
