Lu Dan-an, was initially called Lu Yan-wen, with a pseudonym of Jianhan, or Dan An, alias the Lord King Wah Museum. In 1894 (20 years of the Qing dynasty), Mr. Lu was born in Gann's wooden apartment in the Great Temple Alley outside the east gate in Xian Guadalupe Street in Shanghai. In the year of 1894, he passed away in Shanghai on March 27. As Lu Dan-an has made remarkable achievements in the media, fiction and creative translation of the fields, this paper will discuss Lu Dan-an and his novels in four orientations as follows:The first chapter is a chronicle introduction and interpretation of Lu's entire life. Lu Dan-an showed great interest in literature and art at an early age. Enjoying traditional Chinese talk-show and the Peking Opera was an essential element of his daily life. After graduating from the public Secondary School, he entered the literary word, starting his job as an editor for "Shanghai " Magazine (also known as an entertainment magazine). Soon he became a writer of the "Big World Newspaper". Based on their "Big World' movie-viewing experience, he created a lot of "movie novels". From the 1920's, he participated in a number of newspapers'editing, magazine editing, and published a large number of literary world. In the 1930's, Lu Dan-an, who had a close connection to the shuchang, created a lot of tanci stories for shuchang, which were very popular among the audience. From the 1940's, Lu Dan-an made a shift from the opera production to book writings. The bustling and culturally richness of Shanghai provided the foundation for Lu Dan-an to establish many intimate friendships with people of various fields. The cultural character of Lu Dan-an embodied active part in the city. He enjoyed making friends, being generous to the others, and even sacrificing his own benefits for the sake of other people.The second chapter deals with Lu Dan-an's activities in newspapers and magazines. From the 1910s, the city was gradually becoming prosperous of the tabloid, newspaper supplements or popular literary magazines. As a member of modern novelists, Lu Dan-an and the mass media including newspapers, magazines, built a particularly close relationship. A study on the relationship between Lu Dan-an and the popular literary journals, tabloids, etc.. On one hand, will help to understand how his work was generated in the field, examining the impact of media on his works to better grasp the characteristics of them; On the other hand, by studying the tabloids and periodicals, in which Lu Dan-an participated,we can conclude Lu Dan-an's contributions to the development of the Chinese media and the mass media.Examining a variety of newspapers and magazines in which Lu Dan-an was involved, we will find the commongroud is the reader-centered concept, a high degree of awareness of business planning and business editing. No matter it was the "Big World Report" or the "New Voice" magazine, it is no longer a pure expression of the refined taste of the scholar, but an integration of both the refined and the popular interest. From the"New Voice"to "Red Journal", "Red Rose", the trend of journals was a transformation from the"elegance"to the "popular", the refined taste of scholars was gradually reduced, while the public interest tended to be strengthened.The third chapter probes into the translated novels of Lu Dan-an. The"movie novel"is the major part in Lu Dan-an's translated novels, which is divided into the type of detectives and romance. "Movie novel", in fact, can not be regarded in the strict sense of the translated works. It was the re-creation based on the experience of watching films, with the acceptance of movie"re-creation", which was a form of adaptation. Movie, at that time, was, without any doubt, a new fashion to both the mass and the "Old School" scholars. Lu Dan-an"translated"the latest movies on movie-viewing experience to "movie novel", which was rightly in keeping with the popularity of movies and which no doubted aroused public interest in reading and desire to purchase. The translation of Lu Dan-an from West "movie", reflected the characteristics of entertainment. Meanwhile, in the "translation" process, Lu Dan-an consciously implanted the Chinese traditional values and secular humanity, which was an assimilation of the West by the East and also was an implication of criticism on social reality.Chapter IV handles Lu Dan-an's creative writing-novels. His novels can be divided into three categories:short story, detective fiction, "Li Fei Holmes" series, and the novel "Luo Hua Liu Shui". On the whole, the artistic ingenuity of his novels was relatively weak, such as the detective novel series, "Li Fei Holmes", which indicated traces of heavy imitation, reflecting the characteristics of those toddlers. At the same time, however, it was his imitation and borrowing practices from Western novels and movies that triggered the public's active interest in the civil society, making the novels of Lu Dan-an not only of the West Novels modern factors, but also with a distinctive flavor of the times.Meanwhile, Lu Dan-an's novels were usually published in newspapers, magazines, thus the whole idea, or plot, structure, and the arrangement of the novels were inevitably affected by the style of newspapers and magazines. The reason why novels such as "Luo Hua Liu Shui" was an "unfinished work" was that they were published separately in series from issue to issue on the newspapers or magazines.
