| As the economy becomes a truly global affair, nowadays more and more corporations are seeking the optimal locations to investment in global range. While this does not mean that international production are distributed evenly over the world. On the contrary, the global flow of foreign direct investment(FDI) of transnational corporations(TNCs) tend to clustering. This kind of industry cluster led by FDI can enhance the competitive advantages of related companies and have significant positive impact on the development of regional industries and economy. So more and more TNCs become the participants of cluster and more and more local governments become promoters of the cluster. I denominate the cluster where related industrial FDI is dominant "FDI cluster". The FDI's tendency of clustering and emergence of FDI cluster in the region of Yangtse River Delta make me interested in the study of FDI cluster, especially the FDI cluster in the region of Yangtse River Delta. I found FDI cluster were also studied and recognized by many foreign and local scholars, institutions and governments. Meanwhile the related literatures are increasing. But there are still some deficiencies in current studies, such as most of literatures are based on empirical study or positivism, lack of the theoretical framework to analyze FDI cluster systematically. While with the rapid development of FDI cluster, there are many problems necessary to study in theory and the innovation of theory should be made, which will direct practice. So I think it is valuable and significant to make a proactive and systematic study for FDI cluster with theoretical and empirical approach. Based on this start point, the purpose of this dissertation is to find models which can explain and identify FDI cluster by referencing related theories. Furthermore with these models we can study the FDI cluster in the region of Yangtse River Delta, including identification of the FDI cluster, its impact on the regional economy, the determinants of the FDI cluster, the existing problems in the process of development and the corresponding suggestions and proposals.As theoretical innovation, I managed to establish theoretical model - "pyramidmodel" to analyze the determinants of FDI cluster and establish the quantitative identification system to identify the existence of FDI cluster. Then with these instruments this paper found the key industries with the characteristics of FDI cluster and analyzed the determinants of the sustainable development of FDI cluster in the region of Yangtse River Delta. Then this paper pointed out the existing problems and table some suggestions and proposals. From theoretical innovation to demonstration test, from finding problems to solving problems, the paper form a organic whole.In this paper, I made some important conclusions and innovative views with pyramid model and quantitative identification system, which covered theoretical level and demonstration level. The conclusions from theoretical level include mainly:1. The innovative views for FDI: (1) The essential motive of FDI is to seek, exert and utilize advantages so as to enhance competency; (2) Location advantage is more and more important external advantage for TNCs; (3) Industry cluster is not only the geographical characteristic for FDI, but also is the dynamic location advantage for FDI; (4) The new theoretical model is necessary to study FDI.2. The determinants of FDI cluster are: TNCs's motive of seeking advantages, industrial conditions of clustering and location advantages of host country. Besides government promotion and opportunity are the important factors to promote the development of FDI cluster.3. Quantitative identification system to identify the existence of FDI cluster is established.The conclusions from demonstration level include mainly:1.
