| With the quick development of higher education in recent years, the coordination between higher education and local economic development has become an important problem for the whole society. On the base of study of higher education in Jiangsu province, one of China' s strongest provinces in education, and the present situation of China' s higher education, and by the application of theories methods of economics, statistics, management and pedagogy, the author analyzed systematically several problems in the coordinated development of economy and higher education and made some feasible policy suggestions from viewpoint of macroscopic coordination.By applying the theories of human resource, economic growth and the sustainable development, the research was based on the study of the general situation of China' s higher education and the details of the higher education in Jiangsu Province. For the long-term interaction between higher education and economic development, the research focused on the function on economy of education and human resource, by comparing the success stories from the advanced countries including the United States, Japan and South Korea. For the short-term interaction, first came the analysis of the effect of higher education on local politics and culture, and then came a mathematical model used for the macroeconomic effect of higher education in Jiangsu province. Later, with the perspective changed to the beneficiaries, individuals and families, firms and governments, the author analyzed systematically the effect of local economic growth level on higher education, applying theories of investment-returns.Finally, after the systematic analysis of the coordinated development of economy and higher education, the author made some policy suggestions for the coordination in Jiangsu province, including the reform of financing mode, broadening the avenue of finance and the arrangement of the employment of college graduates.
