Under the guidance of historical materialism and other related theories and methods of anthropology and ethnology, the dissertation draws conception of the plain and highland into the study field of the status of Dali women on the basis of the combination of field work and textual research of historical documents. Choosing women as the object of study, the dissertation uses the theories and methods of women studies, culturology, history, folklore and sociology besides anthropology, and it studies the changes of women status in different ecological environment in Dali district at present time.The dissertation comprises four parts, which includes introduction, four chapters and conclusion.Part one is the introduction. It introduces the dissertation's effect and study background, and defines some basic conceptions. It also gives a brief introduction of related study documents and field work.Part two is chapter one, which gives a historical retrospection of Dali women. The author discusses the status of Dali women before Qing dynasty in the interpenetrational process of the local culture and Han culture. From Qing dynasty to present time, the author discusses chiefly the development of the highland women and the relationship between the contemporary women movement and Dali women.Part three is composed by chapter two and chapter three, which mainly probes into the changes of the status of Dali women in different environment in the contemporary era. Chapter two explains the changes of the family status of contemporary Dali women from the aspects of love, marriage, family life and birth, and chapter three expounds the changes from the aspects of political position, economic status, educational level and religious belief. In brief, although there are still many differences between them, the status of plain women and highland women of Dali district has been enhanced after the foundation of People Republic of China, especially after the reform and open.Part four comprises chapter four and the conclusion. Chapter four evaluates the changes of the status of contemporary Dali women. The author holds the point of view that the formulation and enforcement of law and policy and the continuous development of economy and culture are the main reasons of the changes. The conclusion put forward the viewpoint that the development of Dali women can be promoted if plain women and highland women can supplement each other.In a word, the status in family and society of Dali women has been enhanced and improved after the foundation of People Republic of China, especially after the reform and open. Of course, there are still some problems needed to solve.
