Shale gas is a new field of modern oil and gas exploration which is gradually affecting the energy structure. Paralic and continental shale gas is weak in study, paralic and continental shale strata are mainly distributed in north and northeast of china, the area is a conventional oil and gas main producing areas, study the paralic and continental shale gas is conducive to maintain the production and to increase reserves of old oil fields.Bohai Bay Basin, Qinshui Basin and Ordos Basin in Late Paleozoic deposition belong to typical cratonic basins, depositional environment is mainly paralic facies such as deltaic, littoral facies, tidal-flat facies, barrier islands and so on. Stratigraphic distribution is stable, the rhythm of sand and mud, interbedded shale layer thickness is small, strata accumulated thickness is thick and the coal-bearing strata can be seen. Ordos Basin, Songliao Basin during the Cenozoic have the characteristics of sedimentary depression-type basin.In Bohai Bay Basin during the Cenozoic has the characteristics of rift basin, depositional environment is fluvial, lacustrine and swamp facies.controlled by the sedimentary environment, stratigraphic distribution of the shale is relatively limited, the thickness of single layer of shale is large, and siltstone, sandstone sandwich and be seen frequently.Paralic shale gas enrichment mode has been setup with the characteristics of the shale strata in the lagoon and delta front under the control of the deposition system are widely distributed, large thickness and relatively stable, sand and mud interbedded was rhythmic, multi-folder coal seam. The abundance of organic matter is high, and mainly type II and type III organic matter. Under the control of stable structure, the depth of shale is deep, organic maturity is higher. The continental shale gas enrichment mode has been established with the characteristics of a deep lake-the semi-deep lake, swamp deposition system under the control of the shale stratigraphic distribution limitations which is thick and changing fast, interbedded with siltstone and laminated sandstone, high abundance of organic matter characteristics to type Ⅱ and type I of organic matter based;construct background is shallow buried and low organic maturity.A new method for assessing potential resource of shale gas and optimizing favorable areas has been setup, the north and northeast shale gas resources is 19.18×1012 m3, recoverable resources is 4.77×1012 m3. Among them, the transition phase of geological resources of land and sea is 11.63×1012 m3 and recoverable resources is 2.66×1012 m3 , continental geological resource is 7.55×1012 m3 and recoverable resources amount to 2.11× 1012 m3.Favorable area of the shale gas optimization standard has been set, preferably the favorable area of paralic andcontinental Ordos Basin, south and east of the Songliao Basin Qijia Gulong shale gas.China paralic and continental shale gas potential is huge, the paper has been discussed the influence factors of the shale, the shale gas distribution law, evaluation methods and selection criteria, that will help promote the paralic and continental shale gas theory and Practice.
