Shale gas assessment is currently the key emphasis in work of shale gas exploration and development in China, which includes resource calculation and favorable area selection, key parameter and assessment method are the foundation and difficulty of the work. Based on the vast data research and collection, sample collection and test analysis, field geological investigation and well location reconnaissance, data statistics and analysis and so on, this paper established shale gas resource assessment method system and made creative achievements on shale gas content prediction model, shale gas resource calculation method and favorable area quantitatively selection.The paper mainly focused on research of shale gas resource assessment key problems in China, such as assessment parameters, resource calculation and favorable area selection method. Taking fully advantage of statistic analysis of geological parameters distribution characteristics of different shale type (marine facies, terrestrial facies in depression and fault depression basin), the paper multi-analysed influence factors of gas content (key parameter of shale gas assessment), found out the main controlling factor, established the shale gas content prediction model of marine shale in US, marine and continental shale in China, and preliminarily mastered the variation rule of gas content in different types of shale. On the basis of parameter analysis, combined the heterogeneity of gas content in shale, through the finite element theory, probabilistic method and material balance principle, the paper established three shale gas calculation methods, which are discrete element method, Monte Cario method and the geochemical method; furthermore, according to shale gas geological information system and hierarchy, the paper proposed two shale gas favorable area quantitatively selection methods by using rolling evaluation thought and fuzzy mathematics method, the methods are progressive information overlay method fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method.The paper preliminarily established shale gas resource assessment methodogy in China, and further carried out a application analysis of the method based on service condition of different methods, taking example of marine shale in the southeastern area of Chongqing, continental shale in Ordos Basin and marine shale in southwesrern outcrop area of Guizhou.The research achievements in this paper has important guiding significance to the currently evaluation of shale gas resources in China. It is believed that the evaluation results are operable and reliable. Those achievements can promote the development and innovation of shale gas theory and provide support for shale gas exploration and development in China.
