ObjectiveThe aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic value of Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians (OSTA) in detecting high-risk populations for osteoporosis among elderly HangZhou peopleMethodsA total of3087men and8453women aged60to103years received dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) assay, and OSTA index evaluation. All DXA measurements were performed by a well-trained technician using DXA on lumbar spine (L1-L4). We used the WHO diagnostic criteria for osteoporosis to classify our patients into three categories:osteoporosis (T score<-2.5SD),osteopenia (-1.0≥T score>-2.5SD), or normal(T score>-1.0SD). In addition, all persons were classified into different groups by OSTA scores or years. The correlation coefficients of BMD and weihgt, heght, BMI, age, OSTA index were calculated by Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The sensitivity, specificity, and the area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of OSTA in screening osteoporosis were evaluated.Results1. lumbar spine BMD and OSTA index of men were higher than women’s, and the percent of osteopenia and osteoporosis were lower than women’s (4.2%vs35.0%,18.8%vs41.4%).2. The correlation between BMD and weihgt, heght, BMI, OSTA index had statistical significance except for male age.3. The sensitivity, specificity, AUC for men and women with a T score cutoff of-1of BMD were80.8%,55.7%,0.759and88.4%,34.4%,0.722, respectively.ConclusionsOSTA index has a certain ability in screening osteoporosis in HangZhou people older than60years.
