| With continuous development of the archaeological work since the founding of The people’s Republic of China, fruitful results of the study of the capital of the Qin and Han have also been achieved. In this paper, the Qin and Han capital is regarded as a historical process of continuous evolution, and comes up for discussion and interpretation using the concept of "inter-mold space". The "inter-mold space " is both the object of this paper and also a research tool of this article. The so-called "inter-mode space" is a history space, result from the "interactive mold" between the architectural spaces and those in Political power system. In the Qin and Han dynasty, Monarch and his subjects created urban spaces, and in turn, these spaces molded the historical existence of the Monarch and his subjects strongly. The imperial evolution of the Qin and Han dynasties, especially the evolution of the emperor to the Son of Heaven, had a decisive effect on the evolution of the forms of the Qin and Han capital spaces."Private family" and "public family" was the history principles, which dominated the spaces of the Qin and Han capital. This historical principle is to play a role "under the heaven"."Private family" is the First Emperor of the Qin put the whole empire as the realm dominated by his private will. The "public family" is "One World under the heaven" throughout the Han and Tang Dynasties. The "capital-planning system" of the "Kao gong" was the ideal schema of "One World under the heaven". In the pre-Qin period, residential areas, the palaces, temples, king’s city walls, royal gardens were the spatial components and architecture prototype of the Qin and han’s capital. Discrimination on these spatial elements of public and private nature will establish a basic standard of judgment for the discussion of the Qin and Han "inter-mold space".Xianyang is a typical sample of the private capital created by the First Emperor Ying Zheng; Western Han Dynasty Chang’an filled with intense struggle between public of and private of the capital; Eastern Han Luoyang marked the initial establishment of the public capital of the empire. What the Qin and Han capital show was the evolution from private to public. In this paper, a series of historical phenomena in the Qin and Han capital will launch a new interpretation in this new logic."The earth mirroring the heaven", the Xianyang city planning, the architectural image of the Royal Palace, Weiyang dispute between the monarch and the Prime minister, the generation of the image of Polaris-Chang’an, Scholars wisdom in the crisis of overpass between palaces, the position of the wei-yang front hall, the expectation of the arrival of God’s in Liu Che’s Chang’an, southern suburbs built by Sincere wangmang and paying obeisance to the emperor in the Deyang hall in Luoyang, all these historical fragments in the Qin and Han capital will be embedded into the process of the evolution from the private to the public. Thus, all these historical fragments will become the key nodes of the overall historical process from the Qin to han. In view of the inter-mode space, the new interpretation of these historical node will build a new logical framework for the study of the capital history from the Han to Tang. |
