At the beginning of the 20 th century, western jazz was introduced into China for the first time in Shanghai, After has experienced the prosperity of nearly half a century, in the 1950 s jazz began to become silent gradually, and the Jazz was once in the whole Shanghai so popular, it disappeared in people’s field of vision overnight.But the jazz improvisation way of playing, carefree tune and the golden years of past years, and the culture of the city of Shanghai, and in the evolution process of unceasing development, gradually become a kind of cultural phenomenon, with special artistic spirit influenced more and more ordinary Chinese., so to speak, the prosperity of jazz in Shanghai, depending on the city of Shanghai’s unique artistic and all inclusive culture trait, and in its development process, gradually formed with Shanghai local art characteristics and cultural connotation of jazz. The most important thing is that under the specific historical period, alternating between jazz and urban culture, formed a unique "localization" of the jazz art characteristics and aesthetic connotation.
