Sino–Vietnamese Words Research

Historically, the intercultural exchange relationship between Vietnam and China started long back, which even further went on to develop into close relationship between the two countries, this is a reality. During the cultural contact between China and Vietnam, Vietnamese culture was clearly affected by Chinese culture, but as for the extent to which Vietnamese culture was affected by Chinese culture this is the work for historians. What about language contact?In terms of language research, researchers from both countries started noticing the existence of a certain phenomenon that is the existence of Sino-Vietnamese words. Sino-Vietnamese words are very important to both learning of Chinese by native speakers of Vietnamese and learning of Vietnamese by natives speakers of Chinese language. From then, a lot of researches were done in the field of Sino-Vietnamese words and the results of these researches already showed significance contribution to the broader field of linguistics. Chinese linguists accepts the contribution of Sino-Vietnamese words, but their understanding of the concept of Sino-Vietnamese words is ambiguous, totally unclear, to the extent that there are questions as to whether these words belong to Chinese dialect? For Vietnamese people, Sino-Vietnamese words are an important part of Vietnamese language’s vocabulary, no one in Vietnam does not know Sino-Vietnamese words, because these words belong to their mother tongue hence the use of Sino-Vietnamese words in everyday conversation has become a common language phenomenon in Vietnam. However, if we ask; “what are Sino-Vietnamese words?” there are very few people who can give clear and correct response. Therefore, what is a Sino-Vietnamese word then? Responding to this question is one of the major aim and research purpose of the present study.The present research is divided into 5 chapters; the detailed content is as follows:This article taken deduction, induction, inference, synthesis, description, statistic for research work. Firstly, introduces the justification of choosing the present topic, research objectives, proposed the application value of the present study. Then summarizes the research status of Sino-Vietnamese words in both Chinese and Vietnamese linguistic researches as well as the theoretical basis of the present study. Secondly, based on the theory of loanwords defined the concept of Sino-Vietnamese words. At the same time, using deductive and inductive methods analyzed the historical development of Sino-Vietnamese words, analyzed the nature and characteristics of Sino-Vietnamese words and the research status of the Sino-Vietnamese words. Then, according to the characteristics of Chinese and Sino-Vietnamese words use description, synthesis, classification, interpretation, inference, statistical methods to analysis. Next, this paper use comparative analysis theory and error analysis theory examined the semantic equivalence of Chinese and Sino-Vietnamese words. Finally, an integrated approach to a comprehensive summary of the research of this paper.It is our hope that the results of the present study will help linguistic researchers to understand the concept of Sino-Vietnamese words from different angles. It is also our hope that through the present research, Vietnamese people will have renewed and comprehensive understanding of these Sino-Vietnamese words so as to make them perfect and develop Vietnamese language. The results of the present research will be of high theoretical and practical reference value in either teaching of Chinese to the native speakers of Vietnamese or teaching of Vietnamese to the native speakers of Chinese as well as in the cultural exchange and research of the languages under study.
