It is discovered that Su Tong’s novels are in possession of unique linguistic glamour when we trace back his creation in the past three decades. The dissertation focuses on Su Tong’s language and discusses his novels’ linguistic values from the rhetoric perspective.Different from the present view regarding Su Tong’s literature creation originates from western literature; it is believed that Su Tong combines both Chinese literature and western literature well. The absorption from Chinese traditional literature as well as from western literature skills enables Su’s access to literary profoundness. From the perspective of context appreciation, it is the fictional world that is constructed as south context in Su Tong’s novels, in which the descriptive language betrays intense sensation, constructs special descriptive linguistic system with combining what one sees and what one feels. Su Tong’s unique language is revealed with his linguistic deviance. This dissertation holds the discussion of defamiliarization and innovation in narration techniques. To emphasize, the language in Su Tong’s novels is rooted in Chinese traditional literature. Inherited from the classics and absorbed from the western creating skills, his language is exquisite, graceful, and variable in style.
