The theory of Qi transformation of Triple Burner originated in Pre-Qin period, and had been formed in Huangdi Neijing(Neijing). It was highly praised and explained by Nanjing and Zhongzangjing.Over two millennium it has been studied, put into practice and developed. It is unique in Chinese and world medicine, and has become a pillar of Chinese medicine and continues to pass on.PurposeEvidence-based is the role of a health professional career. As a health and medical clinician needs to discern quality information that can benefit patients from an increasing abundance of facts, practices, biases and uncertainties. In this study I draw together the unearthed and existing materials and study its deep contents by comparison and analysis. It intends to ask questions and find answers from evidence, and how to judge the quality of that evidence for use in healthcare.MethodsThis assignment intends to find the correct evidence for the theory of Qi transformation of Sanjiao by Wang Guowei’ s dual evidences method. It collects, analyzes its relevant materials, exploring its origin, formation, development and as well as its application in clinical practice. Therefore,it may reveal the true picture of Sanjiao and its original purpose of medical formation of Qi transformation of Triple Burner through interpretation and analysis to determine the ancient history of specific content. This assignment is divided in five parts,in which, the first chapter is a literature review regarding the current studies on this topic. The second chapter focused on the carding research on unearthed material and Neijing, and intended to find the true imagine of Sanjiao in the eyes of the ancients by theoretical analysis,in depth discussion and cross examining. The Chapter three probed into the formation of the qi transformation of Sangjiao theory, exploring in depth of its purpose, contents, and its relevant structure and functions by sorting out Neijing. The Chapter four expounded the relationship of qi transformation of Sangjiao theory among the other theory of Neijing, whereas the chapter five inquired into the past and future clinical application of the theory.Results(1)In Pre-Qin Dynasty, water, fire and qi were included in the content of Jiao in Sanjiao concept, and it could transform to each other under some conditions. It was extracted from the observation and understanding from the nature.Crops change its shape and status by responding to heat and cold.(2)The concept of Sanjiao in Neijing was evolved from Sanjiu and Tuoyue, which originally were from regimen and breathing exercise.(3)The theory of Qi transformation of Triple Burner was an innovative formation of theory from medical clinician of Neijing period by consulting, discussion, and combining their experiences and understandings that learnt or inhered.(4)The concept of Sanjiao in Neijing was not meant to be a single organ,in fact,it was a system consisting of serious organs for qi,blood, fluid formation and transformation. It included abdominal cavities, skins, pores, membranes, space above the stomach, space in clavicle......365 acupuncture qi points.(5)The system of Sanjiao in anatomy aspect in Neijing was an incomplete status, and needed to be further studied and developed in details of anatomy, and its relevant meaning to this theory,by later researchers and medical clinicians.(6)Qi,yin and yang were the fundamental concepts of the theory of Qi transformation of Janjiao,Wuxing and Wuzang were the concepts of the medium grade of Qi transformation of Sanjiao, whereas the concept of Sanjiao was the high grade of qi transformation of Sanjiao. It was because of that, this theory integrated and joined together Chinese medicine by qi diagnosis and qi regulating method.(7)A party who recognized the theory of qi transformation of Sanjiao was the main stream of Chinese medicine, from which, there were many great medical clinicians from a line of dynasties acknowledged the qi formation theory of Sanjiao as the image medicine.Their contribution to the Chinese medicine was their clinical applications. One branch of it was a party of a group practitioner who saw Sanjiao with qi and it linked with organs. For example,Wang Qingren,Wu Jutong developed the theory by a way of cross examining qi and its linked organs during their medical practice. Therefore, their clinical performance was more elaborated with details.Their formulae were slightly more specific to the diseased part of the patient. The third party challenged the qi transformation theory of Sanjiao since Song Danysty, for whose eyes,Sanjiao was an organ or organs in anatomy purpose only.Their contributions to the Chinese medicine was in anatomy, and it would be beneficial to the cross examining of qi and the organs,so that,to the development of the theory.ConclusionThe theory of Qi transformation of Triple Burner in Neijing was a molding and matured medical theory. Its basic concepts originated in Pre-Qin period, and the theory had been shaped in Neijing. It stood for a certain actual generaliability for clinical practitioners as the successive method was based on many practical experiences and understanding in health, could observe, diagnose qi movement of its changing status, and regulate qi,blood, water and body fluid by the qi movement of entering and exiting, ascending and descending, and act as the pivotal points for Qi transformation of the individual’s body. This theory took qi transformation of Triple Burner as the key link, integrated and interwoven or ran through qi,yin yang, wuxing, five organs and twelve channels as a model. It became a regulative human metabolic sophisticated medical theory,in which qi,yin yang were used as the fundamental concepts, wuxing and five organs as the medium grade concepts, whereas the qi transformation of Sanjiao was used as the high grade concept. This theory focused on diagnosis and treatment by qi status and movement, its purpose was to achieve the individual’s homeostasis via maintaining the normal qi transformation and transportation. The theory and application of Qi transformation of Triple Burner will be helpful in improving the level of clinical practice.
