| China’s dream is a national dream, as well as every Chinese dream. Dream is a goal which refers to a desired result a person envisions and commits to achieve. It has been studied by psychologist for a long history and they believe that all of the meaningful human behaviors are guided by goals. How can a person realize his or her goals? This is a basic concern of psychology and a hot topic of modern goal theory. Based on the model of action phase and social class psychology, this dissertation tested the influence of context factors (i.e. social fairness) and individual factors (i.e. self regulation) on goal pursuit through9studies.The first three studies support the hypothesis that the lower class members are more likely than higher class members to calibrate their goal commitment to the societal fairness. Study1, using an experimental procedure to manipulate the societal fairness, demonstrated that the lower-class undergraduate students who under the fairness condition reported higher level of goal commitment. Study2replicated Study1using an instruction priming procedure, demonstrating that the lower-class undergraduate participatnts reported more motivation to work hard to prepare their future job when they primed by the societal fairness. Study3contributed evidence from a representative sample and respondents reported more motivation to pursuit a goal to the extent that they perceived that the opportunities and rewards were distributed fairly. Across the3studies, no links between societal fairness and goal commitment emerged for members of higher class members. The next three studies support the hypothesis that the societal fairness appears to enhance the goal attainment of the members of the lower-class and this relationship was mediated by goal commitment. Study4, using an experimental procedure to manipulate the societal fairness, demonstrated that the lower-class undergraduate students who under the fairness condition reported higher level of goal commitment and had a more goal progress. Study5replicated Study4using an instruction priming procedure, demonstrating that the lower-class undergraduate participants reported more motivation to work hard to prepare their future job and received a higher goal attainment score when they primed by the societal fairness. Study6contributed evidence from a representative sample and respondents reported more motivation to pursuit a goal and higher goal attainment to the extent that they perceived that the opportunities and rewards were distributed fairly. Across the3studies, no links among societal fairness, social class, goal commitment and goal attainment emerged for higher class members. The last three studies support the hypothesis that the societal fairness and implementation intention appears to interactionally enhance the goal attainment of the members of the lower-class and this relationship was mediated by goal commitment. Study7, using an experimental procedure to manipulate the societal fairness, demonstrated that the lower-class undergraduate students who under the fairness and implementation intention manipulation condition reported higher level of goal commitment and had a more goal progress. Study8replicated Study7using an instruction priming procedure, demonstrating that the lower-class undergraduate participates reported more motivation to work hard to prepare their future job and received a higher goal attainment score when they primed by the societal fairness and manipulated by instruction of implementation intention. Study9contributed evidence from a representative sample and respondents reported more motivation to pursuit a goal and higher goal attainment to the extent that they perceived that the opportunities and rewards were distributed fairly and have implementation intention. Across the3studies, no links among societal fairness, goal commitment, and implementation intention and goal attainment emerged for members of higher class members. All of these results have been discussed under the phrase of action, social class psychology and societal fairness theory. |
