A Research On Dress Vocabulary In Ancient China

The research object is Chinese dress language in ancient China,including the words on the names,on the colors and on the material of Chinese dress in ancient China,which belongs to a dating study on specific semantic domain.The research mainly describes the stationary distribution and semantic differences of Chinese dress language in ancient China from the synchronic level and uncovers the laws on lexical evolution and semantic evolution from the diachronic level on the basis of the research findings on traditional exegetics,combing the research methods on traditional exegetics and modern semantics and using sememe analysis theory and cognitive metonymy theory.First of all,three categories,including the words on the names,on the colors and on the material of Chinese dress,are classified based on sorting out the semantic features of the 415 words on dress which are closely related to the detected dress in ancient China.Afterwards,the three categories are subdivided to explore the semantic differences,the sources of lexical meaning and the evolution of the lexical items by using analytical statement on lexical items attributes to analyze the semantic attributes,generation attributes and usage attributes of the lexical items under each category.Secondly,the research studies the evolution of Chinese dress language in ancient China from the diachronic level on the basis of synchronically stationary description of lexical meaning system,especially mainly analyzes the generation,death and extinction of dress language and analyzes the evolution features of the vocabulary and the internal factors of a language and the external factors of social culture which cause the evolution of dress language on the basis of the description.Then,the research describes the evolution of lexical meaning on dress language in ancient China from the diachronically dynamic perspective and comprehensively describes the extension of lexical meaning for the words on the names,on the colors and on the material of dress language in ancient China,analyzes the routes and the types of lexical meaning extension and discusses the features of lexical meaning extension on dress language in ancient China.At last,the research mainly analyzes the extension of lexical meaning of dress language in ancient China under the influence of cognitive metonymy and discusses the motivation which caused the extension of lexical meaning of dress language in ancient China and the cognitive mechanism of metonymy extension.The research conducts an exhaustive survey on the language in ancient China related to dress recorded in dictionaries combing the quantitative survey and qualitative analysis and explores the features of lexical meaning and evolution laws by using statistical data and typical examples.The research makes a stationary description on dress language in ancient China from the synchronic level in order to obtain an elementary profile on the systematic composition of the dress language in ancient China;On the other hand,the research makes an evolution analysis on the dress language in ancient China from the diachronically dynamic level,including both the analysis on the formation of vocabulary and the exploration on the laws of the lexical meaning evolution.Since the dress language belongs to the scope of culture-specific vocabulary,the research aims to have a more concrete analysis on dress language and have a more delicate analysis on the semantic differences of the lexical items for the same category in conformity with the principle of combining the historical documents and cultural reference.
