Chinese painting theory have earned great achievements in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty. In this period, many painters with extraordinary individuality and style and collectors actively participated in all sorts of activities. They put forward a series of proposals and criticism from various perspectives.Their arguments diametrically opposed to each other,or,basically the same. The important questions are imitating classical art and learning from the heart, regulations and transcendence, ravines and pen and ink, magnificence and commonplace, elegance and singularity. They deeply analyzed some key problems in painting creation and art appreciation, which actively promoted Chinese painting criticism theory. This paper will systematically try to compare the similarities and differences between their main arguments, and reveal the ideological root of their ideas. The critical theory of painting in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty is closely related to the disputes between local schools. To analyze their arguments help to realize the critic’s different standpoints and perspectives.
