Migration of ethnic groups and changes of place names during the period of Shang and Zhou is a set of contradiction.migration of ethnic groups is a kind of social activities of ancient people,changes of place names include evolution and spatial displacement of geographical names.Whether the connection between clan names and place names,or the relationship between migration of ethnic groups and changes of place names,reflects the interaction of kinship factor and geographical factor.migration of ethnic groups during Shang and Zhou Dynasty has various reasons,involving several aspects of politic,economy,military and natural environment factors.The type of migration of ethnic groups could be divided into three aspects: the move of capital,the migration in enfeoffment and the migration under conquer.The resources of migration of ethnic groups during Shang and Zhou Dynasty include the direct narrative documents,Clues of place names,the legendary clan charts and Celebrities relics,Archaeological culture relics and the clan names in bronze inscriptions with the excavation place.there are a lot of special phenomenon of place names during Shang and Zhou Dynasty,such as “different names of the same place” and “different places with the same names”.The change,ellipsis and increase or decrease in composition of place names,are all the reasons of “different names of the same place”.In addition to the accidental coincidence,the change of place names and habit and position of the user could cause the phenomenon of “different places with the same names”.Specifically,migration of ethnic groups has great significance on the above special phenomenon.The phenomenon of the migration of place names along with the ethnic groups during Shang and Zhou can be divided into three types: a complete spread of place name,spread of place name with a difference and composited by another place name in spread.After the Qin and Han Dynasty,place names in border areas usually spread outward,which is different from the spread of place name before.The coincidence of group of place names between different regions has a great significance on research of ethnic groups migration during the period of Shang and Zhou.Based on this point,we carry on the study and make the following conclusion.Firstly,the state of Wu where Taibo and Zhongyong left from Zhou and went is likely to be the state of located in Qian river,the seed of named Zhouzhang took the feud in the south of the lower reaches of the yangtze river during the period of Cheng King,Western Zhou dynasty,and his brother also took the feud call Yu in the southern part of Shanxi province.Secondly,the coincidence of group of place names between different regions,such as the northeastern part of Henan and the boundary region of Shandong and Henan,the Fen basin and Shandong area,the Fen basin and the basin of Huai river and Han river,all should be attributed to the migration of ethnic groups during the period of Shang and Zhou.
