In this paper,an Internet-based Magnetotelluric Forward and Inversion Distributed Computing System is designed and built by means of some Internet technologies, such as(Java Platform,Enterprise Edition)and JPPF(Java Parallel Processing Framework). This system is able to integrate the existing algorithm programs into it.Therefore,it can provide a unified distributed computing service to the Internet users. In view of the diverse methods for geophysical exploration and multi-source heterogeneous features of the data,it makes an abstract description of the data files using the JSON(JavaScript Object Notation)language and standardizes the methods of storage and management of different kinds of data files.Based on the studies of magnetotelluric one-dimensional and two-dimensional forward theories,a one-dimensional layered forward program and a two-dimensional rectangular and biquadratic interpolation finite element forward program are designed and implemented in the paper.Meanwhile, after analyzing the magnetotelluric inversion theory,it improves the genetic algorithm used in the nonlinear inversion with the application of K-means cluster analysis. It also tests the effectiveness of the improved genetic algorithm using some typical mathematical functions, and finds that this new algorithm,to some extent, can avoid being trapped in local optimum too early, and the algorithm convergence rate is relatively faster. With the help of this improved genetic algorithm, magnetotelluric one-dimensional and two-dimensional nonlinear inversion programs are designed and implemented.Java,Python and other EXE programs can be deployed into the Magnetotelluric Forward and Inversion Distributed Computing System. At present, this system is able to provide the following data processing services to the users through the Internet: magnetotelluric one-dimensional forward computation,two-dimensional bilinear finite element forward computation,one-dimensional and two-dimensional nonlinear inversion computation based on genetic algorithm, and one-dimensional Occam inversion computation. Finally,to verify the availability and correctness of the computing system, this paper conducts the application tests online. The results show that when it comes to the same computational complexity, this distributed computing system can enhance the computational efficiency, and that the related models have verified the correctness of the service this system provides.
