Research On The Concept Of Socialist Ecological Civilization With Chinese Characteristics

Reviewing the historical evolution of the entire human civilization is actually a historical process of the changing relationship between human beings and nature,and also is a historical process by which the nature is gradually conquered by man.As far as China is concerned,great achievements have been obtained in development of many aspects of this country.A general understanding is that,in just a few decades,China has gone through hundreds of years of development in Western capitalist countries.However,during the continuous development in China,social production and human activities are constantly affecting the natural environment.Consequently,the opposite relationship between man and nature emerges and is becoming more and more intense.Indeed,the natural cost/loss during our development is inestimable.Considering the facts of the grim domestic ecological situation and unfavorable international ecological conditions,and based on the introspection of the development mode of industrial civilization,it is essential to think how to theoretically construct the ideological understanding of ecological practice for the further promotion of Chinese ecological civilization construction.Thus,President Xi Jinping gave an answer in a report at the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC),that is,"establishing the view of a socialist ecological civilization" aiming at providing guidance for the practice of Chinese socialist ecological civilization construction from the aspect of ideology.As an extension of the existing studies,this dissertation is consisted of three parts: introduction,main text and conclusion,mainly discussing the new civilization(ecological civilization)in the human development history based on the practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era.Under the guidance of the spirits of the 18 th and 19 th CPC National Congresses,a holistic research is conducted to clarify the following two issues,i.e.,what is a socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics,and how to utilize that view to rationally guide the ecological practice.In addition,this dissertation also provides answers on problems encountered in the practical constructions of ecological civilization.The introduction concisely describes the research subject and significance and sorts out the status of the existing studies on ecological civilization.Additionally,the basic research approaches and thinking adopted in the dissertation together with the dissertation?s novelty are also included in the part of introduction.At the last,this part also emphasizes the fundamental connotation of several concepts related to ecological civilization.As the main text of the dissertation,the first two chapters comb the theoretical origin and historical evolution of ecological civilization,which provides theory preparation and practice basis for establishing the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Chapter 1 mainly talks about the theoretical basis on the formation of the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Firstly,it summarizes the ideological ideas proposed by the founders of Marxism,for instance,human is a part of the natural world,and development and utilization should follow the law of nature,etc.It is affirmed that these ideas are still being used currently.Next,this chapter discusses the most representative ideas on ecology in the Chinese traditional culture such as "The Unity of Man and Nature","Tao Follows Nature" and "Respect for Life".In addition,the three typical ecology theories in the Western countries,Ecologism,Eco-socialism and Ecological Marxism are also elaborated.The retrospect of these ideological ideas and theories lay the foundation for further investigations on the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Chapter 2 reviews the historical development of socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.The development process can be generally classified into four stages including the sprouting stage,shaping stage,developing stage and flourishing stage.In different historical periods,the leads of the CPC had different understandings about the ecological and environmental problems,and the relationship between human and nature.These different understandings were then reflected by the corresponding ecological civilization ideas in different stages.In order to show the logical coherence and structural connection among these ideas,this chapter summarizes the historical background and specific theory in each stage,intuitively demonstrating that the CPC has consistently adhered to the socialist ecological civilization.Based on the overview of the theoretical origin and historical evolution of ecological civilization,the middle part of this dissertation is focused on analyzing and investigating the theoretical understanding of the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics from the perspective of theoretical claims and basic features.Chapter 3 details the theoretical claims of the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Based on the historical investigation of socialist ecological civilization,and to realize the comprehensive development of human freedom,this chapter proposes the theoretical claims of the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics,that is,harmonious development,ecological equity,green development,and ecological security.Meanwhile,each theoretical claim is elaborated in order to give clear and thorough explanations on the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Note that the realistic path analysis of the practice of Chinese ecological civilization using the concept of socialist ecological civilization in later chapters are described on the basis of the contents in this chapter.In particular,the theoretical claims proposed herein are the core of this dissertation.Chapter 4 briefly summarizes the basic characteristics of the socialist ecological civilization concept with Chinese characteristics.After abstracting and analyzing the theoretical propositions in the previous chapter,it is also an indispensable link to further summarize the basic characteristics of this concept.By studying the basic characteristics of the concept of socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics and comparing it with the traditional concept of civilization,we can get rid of the misunderstanding of the traditional concept of civilization,and understand and grasp the basic connotation and spiritual essence of the socialist concept of ecological civilization more profoundly.In short,historicity,nationality,epoch and practicality are the four most basic characteristics.The last three chapters are described based on the basic contents of the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics,including measuring the current situation,summarizing achievements and discovering problems during Chinese ecological civilization practice using the concept of ecological civilization.Afterwards,the feasible path to promote the ecological practice in China by applying the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics is presented.Chapter 5 is to measure the current ecological civilization constructions in China by applying the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Two aspects are discussed here.One is the achievements,and the other one is the problems existing in the current ecological civilization constructions in China.With regard to the achievements,owing to the extensive efforts by the CPC and state,the situation of ecological and environmental protection has been changed significantly.In addition,ecological constructions have been smoothly implemented,and the quality of domestic ecology and environment has been relatively improved.Certainly,we still face many unresolved issues during the ecological civilization constructions,for instance,the unoptimistic status of domestic environment,unsound consciousness of ecological civilization,extensive economic development mode,incomplete ecological systems,and inadequate cooperation in the international environmental protection field,etc.Chapter 6 is the realistic path for the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics to promote the construction of ecological civilization.This chapter aims at demonstrating and explaining the feasibility of establishing the concept of socialist ecological civilization from the two dimensions of theoretical basis and practical basis.On this basis,according to the problems existing in the process of domestic ecological practice,this paper focuses on the specific ways to solve the realistic environmental problems and promote the construction of ecological civilization in the view of socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics,that is,to enhance the awareness of ecological civilization and form a good social fashion;to improve the key system construction and enhance the ability of system guarantee;and to renew the classics.The fourth is to strengthen international ecological cooperation and promote global ecological construction.Finally,conclusions are drawn from the research elaborated in this dissertation.For example,it is an inevitable choice to continuously enhance the theoretical self-confidence of socialist ecological civilization in the historical inheritance and promote ecological constructions using the socialist ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics.Besides the summary of the research,future studies on ecological civilization are also discussed.For instance,the theoretical claims of socialist ecological civilization can be deeply investigated;countermeasures on the establishment of socialist ecological civilization in the whole society can be explored;how to vigorously enhance the influence of socialist ecological civilization is an important issue worthy of study.
