Background: Cardiovascular disease(CVD)is the most common complication of end stage renal disease(ESRD).Vascular disease in peritoneal dialysis(PD)patients is still the main cause of death.Traditional risk factors of atherosclerosis include: diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. In PD patients uremia and dialysis treatment itself may play an important role in atherosclerosis.we collectd Pulse Wave Velocity(PWV)and Galectin-3 to explore the extent of vascular sclerosis and related risk factors in PD patients. Methods: Collected 260 cases cfPWV of our hospital long-term regular PD patients, with biography, biochemistry, echocardiography, ultrasound, medication history, abdominal aortic calcification(AAC)scores. We collected serum of 160 patients within them and run ELISA test(R & D Human Galectin-3 Quantikine ELISA Kit)to measure serum Galectin-3 concentrations.Statistic analysis by SPSS 19.0 for statistically significant correlation. Results: Use cfPWV>10m/s as the definition of arteriosclerosis, logistic regression analysis showed that HbAlc(OR: 3.667,p = 0.001),brachial artery systolic blood pressure(OR: 1.048,p <0.001),Age(OR: 1.073,p = 0.001),history of diabetes(OR: 1.52,p <0.001)as independent risk factors for atherosclerosis.Duration of PD,PD adequacy and PWV have no statistically significant correlation.Galectin-3 are related to Ccr(r =-0.18,p = 0.05),BNP(r = 0.218,p = 0.01),brachial artery pulse pressure(r = 0.174,p = 0.03),PWV(r = 0.190,p = 0.02),carotid artery intima-media thickness(r = 0.238,p = 0.03).Galectin-3 can be a biomarker to assess prognosis.
