On Reception And Research Of Han Yu In Qing Dynasty

The Qing Dynasty is an important period in the accepting history of Han Yu’s works,during which there appeared many research books about Han Yu.First of all,many scholars identified and examined his existing works,and the achievements of those studies are mainly preserved in some bibliographical works.In terms of collation and annotation,there appeared some typical works,such as Collation of Han Yu’s Collected Works by Chen Jingyun,Notes on Reading Han Yu’s Collected Works by Wang Yuanqi,Additional Comments of Han Yu’s Collected Works by Shen Qinhan and Annotation of Han Yu’s Collected Works by Fang Chenggui and etc.Besides,Gu Sili extracted the poetry from Han Yu’s collected works,deleted and added the previous comments,and then brought forth The Annotations of Changli Poetry.Fang Shiju arranged Han Yu’s poetry chronologically,and brought into being The chronological Annotation of Han Changli’s poetry.The above two kinds.of works were important versions of Han Yu’s poetry in the Qing Dynasty.The above mentioned works had played an important role in promoting the research of Han Yu’s works in the Song Dynasty.The comments on Han Yu’s collected works presented a splendid sight in the Qing Dynasty.Zhu Yizun and He Zhuo’s comments on Han Yu’s poetry had been recognized as the best and were repeatedly copied and printed.Zeng Guofan’s comments on Han Yu’s proses had unique features,and were not only helpful for the readers to understand Han Yu’s proses,but also reflected his own academic characteristics.Li Jian,Zheng Zhen,Jiang Zonghai,Chen Li,Yan Fu and others’comments also to some extent represented academic achievements in the Qing Dynasty.In contrast,Han Yu’s Confucianism in the Qing Dynasty was left out in the cold,and only a few scholars,according to the need of study and their era,praised or criticized Han Yu’s ideas.For instance,Li Guangdi,Chen Li and other traditional scholars inherited the beneficial components of Han Yu’s thoughts,while Wang Fuzhi,Yan Fu,hold a critical attitude of Han Yu,on behalf of some intellectuals with.enlightenment thoughts and preliminary democratic consciousness.Influence of Han Yu’s poetry and proses in Qing Dynasty literary arena was complex.For poetry,some people spared no effort to praise and learn,and meantime some people criticized mercilessly,and hence opposing forces formed.In various poetic comments and notes,Han Yu was praised by the majority of people,but in many poetry anthologies,the number Han Yu’s poems was very small,even smaller than that of ordinary poets such as Wei Yingwu.On the contrary,Han Yu’s proses were overwhelmingly accepted by most people.The Tongcheng School,the best known school of ancient Chinese proses,showed special preference to Han Yu’s proses.Some people such as Fang Bao,Liu Dakui,Yao Nai,and Zeng Guofan,had given unique interpretations to and gained benefits from Han Yu’s proses.In various prose anthologies,Han Yu’s proses came out on the top,and a lot of works appeared,which were specially devoted to comments of Han Yu’s proses.Among those,some works had exerted an important influence,such as Changli’s Prose Interpretation,Han Yu’s Prose Interpretation,The Simple Explanation to Han Yu’s Pros,One Hundred Han Yu’s Prose chronicles,Discussion on Han Yu’s Prose,The Comments on Han Yu’s Prose,and etc.These works made Han Yu’s proses spread more widely,and also reflected the prevailing preference and taste in prose at that time.
