China-Egypt friendship has a long history.As early as in the Western Han Dynasty(202-8 years ago),Zhang Qian,who was sent by China twice to the Western Region,started from Chang'an(now Xi'an)through Gansu and Xinjiang to Central Asia and West Asia The land route connecting the Mediterranean countries-the "Silk Road",which also successfully opened up a new era of Sino-foreign exchanges,making the "Silk Road" a general term for long-distance commercial trade and cultural exchange routes,especially in ancient China and Egypt.Cultural integration and interaction have become the most dazzling star on this road.Among the four ancient civilizations,China and Egypt both belong to the ancient culture of the Oriental cultural circle.Their culture is bright and has a long history.Time passed,entering the twentieth century.Although both countries faced historical challenges and experienced different social changes and transformations,they also have similarities in cultural development and literature and art."Drama" is one Classic example.Europe is the cradle of drama.According to historical records,Western drama originated in ancient Greece.So far it has a history of more than 2,500 years.During this period,mature tragedies and comedies appeared in Western drama,and also experienced the feudal autocratic period in the Middle Ages,the Renaissance,the 17th-century classicist drama,the 18th century Enlightenment period,and the development process and modernist drama in the 19th century.Evolve.On the one hand,the West has a variety of dramatic styles and genres such as dramatic theories,and has also produced many theories and studies of the drama;on the other hand,the West has many famous drama works and drama writers,thus leading the world drama trend.There is no doubt that China and Egypt,as two ancient civilizations,have a long history of various arts and literary forms,and some are similar to Western dramas such as traditional Chinese opera and Egyptian shadow art.The main literary form can be traced back to the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.Around the twentieth century,both China and Egypt experienced the process of drawing on,imitating,and digesting in the process of drawing on Western drama,until they created rich and nationalized plays.Therefore,this article attempts to analyze and introduce the influence of Western drama on the introduction and development of Chinese and Egyptian drama in the twentieth century and to compare them with similarities and differences.This article consists of three parts:introduction,body,and conclusion.The introduction part mainly introduces the significance and purpose of this study,points out the research theme and research methods of this article,and also briefly summarizes the current situation of Chinese and Arabic drama research in Egypt and China.The body part is divided into four chapters.The first chapter describes the process of the introduction and development of drama in China and Egypt from a historical perspective,and divides this process and the content of the chapter into three main stages:early stage,development period and maturity period.The impact of development has also found that the development of dramas in the two countries has gone through the process of imitating,digesting and creating in the light of Western drama.In the second chapter,this article introduces and demonstrates the influence of the ideological trends of the major Western drama schools on the creation of Egyptian drama in the 20th century,such as realism,symbolism,classicism and absurd.Cao Yu and Tawfiq al-Hakim are the most representative playwrights of the Chinese and Egyptian drama creation in the 20th century.They respectively contributed to the maturity and development of modern drama in China and Egypt.As masters of modern drama in China and Egypt in the 20th century,they have always nourished people's hearts and inspired people's thinking and perception of life and survival no matter in the past,present,or future.Therefore,the third and fourth chapters of this article,which are the core part of this thesis,mainly introduce the life background and growth process of Cao Yu and Tawfiq al-Hakim,and introduce their most representative dramas to discuss their thoughts and approach to learn about the Western drama.Subsequently,this article takes Cao Yu's "Thunderstorm" and Tawfiq al-Hakim "People of the Cave" as examples.After a detailed interpretation of the texts of the two plays,the two playwrights and their plays are discussed,and we will tackle to show the similarities and differences of the works.The fourth chapter focuses on the analysis of the tragic consciousness in ancient Greek drama and the symbolism of Western drama on Cao Yu and Hakim's thoughts,and their embodiment in the two plays and their transcendence after learning from Western drama.
