Usefulness of the Trait Anger, Anger Control and Anger Out subscale scores of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 for assessing the efficacy of anger management training in reducing aggressive behavior associated with the expression of anger

This study evaluated the usefulness of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory - 2 (STAXI-2) Trait Anger, Anger Control, and Anger-Out subscales for assessing the efficacy of treatment in reducing aggressive behaviors. A correlational analysis of archival data containing pre and post intervention STAXI-2 results was conducted on a sample of 45 adult male parolees living at a community reintegration center.; Three hypotheses were evaluated. That treatment would (a) increase the self-report of anger control, (b) decrease the self-report of anger out, and (c) there would be no change reported for trait anger by the subjects in the sample group. The findings of this study do not support using the STAXI-2 as an instrument for measuring the efficacy of anger management training in reducing the self-report of aggressive behaviors by ex-offenders.
