Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation focuses on the modeling and simulation of CNC machine tool motion control system in conjunction with machine tool dynamics. A new concept, logical model, is proposed. It is defined as an intermediate layer between function analysis models and implementation models. The logical model, which inherits from the analysis model, is a type of neutral representation of functionalities of the control system. It also incorporates major factors which are closely related to the hardware implementation. With the logical models, the performance of a CNC machine tool as a mechatronic system can be accurately simulated in the design stage. This result overcomes the drawback of highly abstracted functional analysis models and makes the logical model attractive to the virtual machine tool design.; Based on the concept of logical model, a general framework of the virtual machine tool design and simulation environment, which includes not only machine tool dynamics models but also control system models, is proposed. This part of dissertation discusses first the development of logical models for major components in a motion control system, and the configuration method of the logical model based simulation system. Also discussed are the interaction mechanism between logical model objects and the simulation strategy which guarantees the CPU time consumption to an acceptable level.; The developed virtual motion control system is applied to the virtual machine tool design. A virtual machine tool prototype has been built. The effectiveness has been verified through the conducted virtual design and analyses.
