Historically, the field of psychology looked upon the topic of spirituality negatively. However, in recent years this attitude evolved to a more positive light. Several researchers show that many people, minorities in particular, use their sense of spirituality to help them deal with life problems such as stress, racism, poverty, and mental illness in general. This study examined the relationship between spiritual well-being, stress coping ability, and quality of life among a sample of college students (n= 85). Correlational analyses established positive relationships between spiritual well-being, stress coping ability, and quality of life among the various ethnic groups tested. Research found most of the minority groups to have stronger positive correlations than the White American sample.
