| This qualitative study explores the status of using CALL multimedia by eight EFL instructors at four Saudi private schools. It investigates these instructors' pedagogies and beliefs about CALL. Interviewing, observation, document analysis, field notes, and videotaping were the methods utilized in this study. DowLog and Knowlogy were the CALL multimedia systems that the participants used for their EFL classes.;Using a multi-case and multi-site design, this study has attempted to answer a group of research questions related to (1) the participating EFL teachers' use of CALL multimedia in four Saudi private schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and the pedagogical methods they used in teaching; (2) the participating EFL teachers' beliefs and conceptualization of using CALL multimedia in EFL settings; (3) the influence of contextual factors on the effectiveness of CALL; and (4) a description of CALL software/hardware technologies in the participating schools.;The findings showed that the use of CALL multimedia in the participating Saudi private schools lacking theoretical background and adequate understanding of CALL. Administrative and contextual factors were found having adverse effects on the use of CALL multimedia. Although the participants' beliefs about the role of CALL in EFL education were positive, their understanding and conceptualization of CALL was inadequate, inaccurate and misleading. The participant's beliefs have reflected Positive attitude towards CALL. |
