Re-study On The Phenomenon Of "secularization" Of Dazu Rock Carving Art In Song Dynasty

In China,the Song Dynasty is not only an age of highly-developed culture,art and economy,but also an age of coexistence of three religions,Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism.It is generally believed that the art of the Song Dynasty shows the characteristics of a high degree of Secularization,especially in Buddhist stone carving.The most representative ones are in the Dazu,Anyue in Sichuan Province.On the whole,Scholars’ studies usually focus on three cases:"The Secularization of Figures of Buddha and Eminent Monk","The Secularization and Feminization of Figures of Bodhisattva" and "The Secularization of Religious Motif Images"There are many versions about the cause of "Secularization".Traditionally,this "Secularization"phenomenon has been explained by western Renaissance Humanism,Realism or Ideological opinion,regarding this phenomenon as a representation of "Non Religious Trend" or "Recession of Religion" and "Human Ascension".However,some researchers suggested that we can not simply and surfacely affirm that this kind of Secularization phenomena completely get rid of the bondage of religion and lost its religious characteristics.Although scholars who support the latter view are in the minority,they take a very important place in academic filed.I think that we need to rethink the traditional opinions,reanalyze the causes of the secular phenomenon’s formation.To answer the question may need a new angle of interpretation.This article will be divided into five chapters.In order to raise the question,the first chapter will focus on combing the three aspects:Media,Professional Researches,Concept Definition.The middle three chapters are to analyze the three typical cases,and to find out its internal causes.The fifth chapter focuses on the latest Western research on the origins of Renaissance art,and its revelation to this study.Finally,my conclusion is that it does exist the "Secularization" phenomenon in Dazu Grottoes Art in the Song Dynasty,which we can still call it "Secularization".But the main reasons of this phenomenon are all in the religion itself,rather than“Secular" or"Non-religious".As a researcher,we should not analyze problems with colored-spectacles.Those "Non-religious" points of view seem a bit far-fetched and not so convincible.At least,the analyze of three typical cases in this paper disproved the "Non-religious" view.This dissertation mainly discussed the Dazu Grottoes Art.Anyue works also involved as an auxiliary.
