| The International Chinese Language Teachers(ICLTs)have been confronted with two challenges from their shortage and low quality,which could not be solved efficiently through current teacher training and development,even with the great awareness that ICLTs’ competence should be the core element.There are still some defects in the recent researches about ICLTs competence.For example,non-unified structure of ICLTs competence due to the ambiguous definition and preference to study on explicit competence;the limited use of standards of ICLTs competence in teacher groups;the imbalance on static and dynamic researches on classification of ICLTs competence researches on static classification of ICLTs competence outnumber the dynamic ones;and targeted training methods cannot be developed because of the insufficient researches on the localization.The complex dynamic theory provides a new research perspective in the ICLTs competence study.Based on the previous researches,this study addresses four questions by self-built ICLTs’ dynamic database with both qualitative and quantitative research methods.The main conclusions of this study are as follows,first of all,this study reconstructs the ICLTs’ competence from the complex perspective through a ’ gear’model with four components,teacher consciousness,teacher cognition,teacher knowledge and teacher skills.Secondly,this study confirms the core status of implicit competence in ICLTs competence through the empirical analysis based on their interactive structure.And then,this study further analyses the internal and external factors which influence the ICLTs competence.Based on the empirical research,the components of ICLTs’ teaching competence and intercultural competence are concluded in the structure of ICLTs competence.In addition,the external factors like the influence of national environment are discussed in this study.Finally,this study also prospects the application of the ICLTs competence dynamic structure in competence standards setting,in teacher developing modes and in subject development.The main innovations of this study are as follows,first of all,from the perspectives of the complex dynamic theory,affordance theory and teacher professional development,this study adopts the interdisciplinary approach to define the ICLTs competence.Secondly,this study uses self-built dynamic database collected from self-assessment,interviews,course assignments,teaching reports,classroom observations and relevant news information from ICLTs,to explore their competence from both subjective and objective perspectives with different research methods.And then,to understand the ICLTs competence in a new way with the characteristics of integrity,connectivity,nonlinarity,fuzziness and self-organisation.Next,this study raises several recommendations in setting standards of ICLTs’ competence for Teaching Standards for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.Finally,this study combines ICLTs’ competence with teacher development to transfer training concepts from explicit competence training to implicit competence training for the individual long-term development. |
