A Study Of Verbal And Substantive Expression In Chinese Information Transmission

This dissertation is the research on the grammatical category of Chinese grammar which embodies the qualitative characteristics of language information in the perspective of information transmission.In our study we first discuss how the addresser and addressee transmit information by interaction in the process of information transmission based on the clarification of information and the related research.Also,we say that the authenticity of the information content is essential to the achievement of communicative purpose,and the addresser usually use speech,vocabulary or grammatical categories to express the qualitative characteristics.Among these categories,the very important one is subjective confirmation category.The subjective confirmation category is the subjective expression of the addresser's information authenticity in the process of information transmission,and it is the subjective confirmative evaluation on the authenticity of the information added to the proposition information.In verbal communication,the addresser realizes interpersonal function and textual function through the combination of the subjective confirmation category and the group of related categories,and then to promote the realization of the communicative purpose.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly studies the related language information transmission under the background of linguistic information theory,and points out the main efforts of this paper based on previous researches.The second chapter mainly analyzes the related theory of information transmission,the essence of information and the control of information transmission,and summarized the quality of information characteristics and grammatical forms,mainly definite the subjective confirmation category,research scope,classification,and so on.The third chapter of this dissertation is mainly about the general description and analysis of a sub-category of the subjective confirmation category,the subjective confirmation adverbs.It is one of the most important part of expressing the evaluation of subjective confirmation in Chinese.It can be classified as sentence modifier type(N-type)and sentence evaluation connection type(W-type).The distribution of N-type in sentences is mainly about the confirmatory evaluation in modality.The distribution of W-type is flexible,which not only embodies the evaluative meaning of modality,but also has textual functions.In the fourth chapter,we analyzed the discourse markers of subjective confirmation category.The discourse markers of subjective confirmation category can evaluate part of the propositional information,or the whole propositional information,or a group of propositional information in the transmission of information,in addition to organize the textual information,also to indicate the interactive subjectivity.From the fifth chapter to the seventh chapter,we analyze and describe the co-occurrence mode of the subjective confirmation,the probability,the inevitability and the evidentiality.The concurrence of these groups is mainly for the further enhancement of the function of modality and the coordination of interpersonal and textual functions.The combination of the subjective confirmation category and the probability category is to realize the recognition and unconfirmation of the evaluation function,and the consideration of the politeness principle.The combination between the subjective confirmation category and the inevitability category is to achieve subjective confirmation based on affirmative assertion,and the coordination and enhancement of logical reasoning and subjective evaluation,and also to coordinate the interpersonal function and textual function.The co-occurrence between the subjective confirmation category and evidentiality is to provide the premise and foundation of logical reasoning to the addresser's subjective recognition,together constitute the argument structure,so as to realize the communicational and emotional division,then to enhance the certainty of the evaluation to persuade the addresser.In the eighth chapter we analyzed the expectation-certainty marker "guoran" and the counter-expectation marker "qishi" in context,semantic analysis,pragmatic functions and so on.The semantic features of expectation-certainty and counter-expectation restrict the semantic structure and discourse patterns of "guoran" and "qishi”.Their main function is to mark the verified true information and the reversed true information,and shape the semantic coherence in discourse organization.The ninth chapter is mainly about the subjectivity and subjectivisation of discourse-markers “Bu-Man-Ni-Shuo”,as a subjective – evidential discourse markers in Mandarin Chinese,” Bu-Man-Ni-Shuo” has multi-functions in pragmatics,such as convey the source of information,mark the focus of information in discourse,express the addresser's modality,demonstrate the illocutionary force of speech,and so on.In the tenth chapter,we summarize the communicative and cognitive interpretation of the subjective confirmation category.The grammatical meaning represented by the subjective confirmation category is the confirmation of the authenticity of information content in subjective expressions.From the perspective of stance-taking,the category of subjective confirmation is the expression of the addresser's cognitive stance.The addresser's use of the subjective confirmation category is to build the interaction between the three parts of communication,the addresser,the addressee and the information conveyed.From the perspective of meta-function,the expression of interpersonal function and discourse function in the process of information transmission in the subjective confirmation category reflects Compliance of the addresser to the Cooperative Principle of Quality(Q-rules)in the process of information coding,it is the main demonstration of Q-rules of Cooperative Principle in the process of coding.
