With the advent of the Renaissance of consciousness research in the 1990s,the upsurge of models of consciousness have emerged. The understanding of consciousness is not only a discussion of the relationship between mind and body in Cartesian style, but also has been widely studied as a natural science problem, and gradually formed a multi-disciplinary,multi-dimensional,multi-level research paradigm. The establishment of models of consciousness based on cognitive neuroscience is the product of this background.Reflecting on the problem of consciousness,as a modern mystery,it cannot be solved only by the way of conceptual thinking. At the same time,in the dilemma of exploring consciousness, modern philosophy unconsciously goes to the mysterious pluralism. The dichotomy between mind and brain is reflected in the apparent disconnection between the two major fields of intelligence related to the study of consciousness: the humanities which focuses on the subject's experience and the science which emphasizes the processes in the system. The research on the models of consciousness has gradually become a solid bridge between the mind and brain. This paper is dedicated to seeking the best explanation model to solve the problem of consciousness through the philosophical investigation of contemporary models of consciousness. The promotion of cognitive neuroscience and the methodological standpoint of modeling approach provide reasonable and feasible support for the development of models of consciousness. The establishment of a comprehensive model of consciousness is the most potential method to solve the problem of consciousness, which has important scientific value and philosophical significance.Building a trustworthy bridge between the mind and the brain and explaining how experience can be truly and effectively rooted in our material existence at the same time is the key to solving the core problem of how the brain generates consciousness. As a product of the revival of empirical research on consciousness, models of consciousness have gradually demonstrated their superiority while stimulating in-depth exploration of the mechanism and nature of consciousness. The common points of these models are that they aspire to treat the subjective characteristics of experience fairly, show how these characteristics appear to be reasonable from the candidate mechanism. On the basis of communicating scientific empirical and empirical analysis,it leaves a place for the difficult problem of consciousness. The development of models of consciousness not only enables us to understand consciousness on a scientific basis, but also provides solutions to the unsolved mind-body problem. As a feasible way to bridge the explanatory gap,the extensive research on models of consciousness not only marks that consciousness research has entered the stage of overall thinking structure under the background of the transformation and integration of cognitive view, but also reflects the important philosophical significance. While adhering to the path of naturalism, the construction of the models of consciousness provides a reasonable explanation mechanism for the complexity, subjectivity, dynamics, and uncertainty of consciousness. It is an effective and worth of in-depth exploring direction to solve the problem of consciousness. The thesis consists of the introduction, six chapters of systematic discussion and the conclusion. The first chapter is about the historical investigation of the problem of consciousness and its contemporary dilemma. This chapter is the analysis of the background of consciousness research. It systematically reviews the historical origin of consciousness problem, the difficulties in defining consciousness and the related debates on consciousness problem.Based on the analysis of the dilemma faced by contemporary consciousness problem, that is,the limitation of conceptual thinking in philosophy, the reduction dilemma in neuroscience, the difficulty of computationalism's interpretation of qualia and the trend of mysterious pluralism of contemporary philosophy. Then,it puts forward that the research on models of consciousness model based on cognitive neuroscience is a more promising method to solve the problem of consciousness, and it is a research approach that is expected to break through the problem of consciousness. The second chapter is about the conditions and inevitability of the development of the models of consciousness. The discussion of this chapter provides the method and theoretical basis for the research in the following chapters. On the one hand,it introduces the scientific basis of the development of the models of consciousness,on the other hand,it summarizes the main trends of the current philosophy of consciousness research, and draws close to the research direction of the models of consciousness, and clarifies the necessity and mainstream trend of the rise of contemporary models of consciousness research.Chapter three is the construction of contemporary models of consciousness. This paper systematically investigates the progress of various models of consciousness since the empirical revival of consciousness research. The models of consciousness based on neurobiology aims to clarify the anatomical basis and physiological mechanism of consciousness;the models of consciousness based on cognitive information processing focuses on the possible computational tasks of consciousness process;the models of consciousness based on quantum mechanics explains the basis of consciousness from the perspective of quantum mechanics.Three main tasks have been completed: first, make a systematic division of the current models of consciousness, based on the different interpretation angles of the consciousness phenomenon of different models, divide it into three categories to evaluate the current mainstream models of consciousness;second, the construction and development process of consciousness mechanism are demonstrated by the mainstream models of consciousness, and aims to present different models clearly and comprehensively;third,it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of different models for solving consciousness problems.Although different models have different focuses, they try to make a contemporary attempt to bridge the explanatory gap in the process of blending development.Based on the in-depth analysis of models of consciousness, this chapter aims to explore the best interpretation model of consciousness and promote the development of comprehensive model of consciousness.Chapter four, the confirmation of inner self: CODAM model of consciousness. This is a model that the author agrees with, which reasonably explains the generation mechanism of the inner self, the owner of the content of consciousness.Based on the latest development of consciousness science, the model takes the COrollary Discharge of Attention Movement(CODAM)as the core to seek the final answer to the mystery of consciousness. While exploring the content of consciousness,it provides a scientific basis for the inner self as the owner of the content of consciousness. The fifth chapter is the exploration of free will by the models of consciousness. This chapter is an extension of the problem of consciousness, because the ultimate understanding of consciousness is inevitably inseparable from the autonomous control and rational choice of consciousness control level, which related to free will.It is undeniable that there is a very close relationship between consciousness and free will. This chapter first defends the dialectical relationship between consciousness and free will, maintains the relationship that‘consciousness is the necessary condition of free will',and affirms the scientific status of free will. While analyzing the emergence mechanism of Gazzaniga's free will in the brain,we strive to explore the problem of free will under the approach of models of consciousness.Based on the CODAM model of consciousness, the integrated information theory and the Orch OR model respectively cut into the solution process of free will.Chapter six,the significance and prospect of contemporary models of consciousness. This chapter first discusses the new perspective of mind-body problems provided by models of consciousness, and provides a new methodology for us to re-examine the old mind-body problems from three aspects of solution basis, basic methods and basic principles.Secondly,it summarizes the significance of models of consciousness in epistemology, methods and practice, and looks forward to the future trend of the models of consciousness. The conclusion looks forward to the possibility of the contemporary models of consciousness to bridge the explanatory gap,and points out the current task and direction for continuing to explore the mystery of consciousness.
