Wether There Is A Way To Be No-Moving-The-Mind? | | Posted on:2021-02-19 | Degree:Doctor | Type:Dissertation | | Country:China | Candidate:S Lu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:1485306773982229 | Subject:Theory and Management of Education | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Mencius tried to answer the theoretical question of “whether there is a way to be No-Moving-the-Mind”.It involves the understanding of “No-Moving-the-Mind” and“there is a way to be No-Moving-the-Mind”.“No-Moving-the-Mind” is Mencius’ Proposition on the relationship between speech and mind, will and Qi,that is,the relationship between reason and Sensibility:we should not let the emotional Qi replace or even shake the commanding position and leading role of the rational mind and will, that is,“Qi does not move the mind”.“Qi does not move the Mind”,is the concept of “No-Moving-the-Mind”.It contains the following meanings: the core of it is rationality dominating sensibility, which constitutes the understanding of human nature;“No-Moving-the-Mind” has the meaning of practical rationality, and the dimension of practice, which requires the rationalization of words(words)and actions(courage);“No-Moving-the-Mind”,as a state of consciousness which is not affected by any external objects but still firm in its will power, constitutes the understanding of ideal personality and perfect virtue(hope),and has the dimension of metaphysics. The relationship between speech and mind, will and Qi can be summarized as the system of “speech-mind,will-Qi”,which is related to the concept of mind. The relationship between the concept system of “speech-mind,will-Qi” and the concept of“Qi does not move the mind” constitutes the relationship between potential and reality in the ethical sense. In this regard,Mencius insisted on the position of “the Will is predominant to the Qi”,“the Will does not neglect the Qi”,which is opposite to Gaozi’s “Benevolence within wile righteousness outside” theory,Descartes’ Dualism of mind and matter,Hume’s problem, and other philosophical forms that separate the unity of sensibility and rationality, body and mind. The name of Gaozi’s “No-Moving-the-Mind” is ironic.“No-Moving-the-Mind”points to a moral order, and other minds which embody the same practical reason also contain the same moral order from three different angles. As an ideal personality and perfect virtue,“No-Moving-the-Mind” not only constitutes the goal of “better oneself”,but also is the necessary condition for the possibility of “better the world ”,and the subject qualification of judgement. The rational mind embodied in the Benevolent Mind and Invariable Mind constitutes the dominating force of the sensibility dominated by the reason of“No-Moving-the-Mind”.The Qi of will(sensibility)represented by real estate, diction and courage constitutes its dominant object. The priority choice of reason to sensibility made by “the bigger one is predominant to the smaller one” provides a logical basis for it.The dialectical nature of suitability provides a concrete way for it.These four aspects constitute the understanding of the basis of human nature of “How No-Moving-the-Mind is possible”.“What deserves to be called Knowing-Speeches?” and “What deserves to be called the Vast Qi?” constitute the understanding of a journey of practice of “How No-Moving-the-Mind is possible”.The so-called Knowing-Speeches is that reason dominates sensibility in terms of the-Qi-of-words(speech),and its principles include“knowing people in its’ world” and “to grasp one’s will through his speeches”.The so-called the Vast Qi is that reason dominates sensibility in terms of“the-Qi-of-Courage”(behavior),and its principles include the natural law,the principle of humanity, the principle of process and the principle of talent. In this regard,Mencius held different epistemological standpoints,“What deserves to be called Knowing-Speeches?” is articulable, but “What deserves to be called the Vast Qi?” is hard to articulate. The extension of “‘Knowing-Speeches’ but ‘hard to articulate’” indicates that Mencius already has the concept of tacit knowledge, containing the grasp of the metaphysical dimension of “How No-Moving-the-Mind is possible”.Since “No-Moving-the-Mind” contains a categorical command, then it can be possible to practice it according to the requirements of this categorical order. There are three ways to express the categorical command contained in“No-Moving-the-Mind”,therefore there are three metaphysical ways to make it possible. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | No-Moving-the-Mind, Invariable Mind, Benevolent Mind, Knowing-Speeches, the Vast Qi, Four-Origin-Mind, Tao, Mencius | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
