Education is a special cultural communication activity.During the process of this communication,reading is always the key component.With the advent of the 21 st century,information started to spread rapidly,and forms of media also changed quickly.Whether it is the exploration of the universe or the observation of organs,information is always presented to people in a visual text format.Various signs clearly show that the communication environment and reading ecology are both undergoing changes,and we have entered an era which is full of images.When we focus on the field of education,we find that the advent of the image era has pushed Chinese reading teaching to an awkward position.So,what kind of attitude should be adopted for Chinese reading teaching? And in this image era,how can we maintain a balance between reading text and viewing images? We must conduct a series of academic research in order to promote the development of the teaching of Chinese reading in the image era.In this research,we describe the reform of Chinese reading teaching in the image era as "the image turn of Chinese reading teaching ",and then define it as a trend which students' learning method,teachers' teaching paradigm,and representation of text content are all developing in the direction of visualization.This research follows the basic idea of "finding problems-analyzing problems-solving problems".This research uses research methods such as questionnaires,interviews and case study.Ultimately,this research consists of five parts: status survey,theoretical discussion,comprehensive analysis,mechanism exploration,and methods selection.These were selected in order to explore the value of the image turn of Chinese reading teaching,and to explore the new concepts,new paradigms and new strategies for Chinese reading teaching in the image era.The first chapter is status survey.This chapter is mainly for the authenticity of the proposition "Image Turn of Chinese reading teaching" and to provide data support for subsequent research.Specifically,this chapter uses research methods such as questionnaire and interviews to draw 1,700 students nationwide and 40 Chinese teachers as samples,and to obtain the status of teachers and students' image recognition and application.The survey results show that: First,in the current language environment,images are widely distributed,and image transmission is fragmented,which led teenagers to form a reading habit like "practical-oriented" and "happiness-first",as well as the features like understanding first,poor application ability and weak critical ability.Second,Chinese teachers carry out teaching practice activities through the connection between images and words,which shows the characteristics of fragmentation and surfaceization.Moreover,in the teaching process,Chinese teachers always face obstacles in obtaining image resources and editting images.What's more,they also have the expectation of improving the teaching efficiency,training their image editing ability,and establishing a supporting library of image resources.The second chapter is theoretical discussion.This research believes that the "Image Turn of Chinese reading teaching" is not only an educational topic,but also a comprehensive proposition,which has its unique psychological,cultural,and technical foundations.Psychologically speaking,vision is the basic way of humans understand the world.Whether it is a general cognitive activity or a specific reading behavior,meaning is expressed in the form of an "image" in the brain.The act of "viewing images" contains both thinking and aesthetic elements.Visual thinking is the main part of creative psychological activities such as imagination.Culturally speaking,image is an visual language symbol.With the popularity of visual culture,the ideographic and narrative functions of image symbols have gradually emerged,and gradually become an important part of the modern language system.Technically speaking,visuality is an important sign of educational modernization.Image is the basic tool of modern educational technology and the basic medium of modern educational dissemination.In the 21 st century,visual technology is playing an important role in educating people due to its advantages such as intuition and simulation.The third chapter is comprehensive analysis.The "Image Turn of Chinese reading teaching" is an educational topic that has both history and future,as well as opportunities and challenges.Based on diachronic perspectives,the way of humans' viewing images has gone through for 4 processes: body reading,picture reading,digital reading,and scene reading.In different processes,the medium,content,and the purpose of image viewing are different.Based on the synchronic perspective,for Chinese reading teaching,the image just like a "double-edged sword".On the one hand,the image can make a positive impact on reducing cognitive load,expanding thinking space,enriching aesthetic experience,and infiltrating positive values.On the other hand,the image has the negative influences that lead to the “fragmentation” of learning,the “miniaturization” of word,the “distortion” of content,and the “utilitarian” of childhood.The forth chapter is mechanism exploration.Different from the ordinary "Image Turn",the image turn of Chinese reading teaching has its unique mechanism.Based on the dimension of features,the image turning o Chinese reading teaching consists of three transformations,namely the visual turning of content,the visual turning of understanding,and the visual turning of teaching methods.Based on the dimension of substance,the image turn of Chinese reading teaching consists of four transformations,namely the transformation of the symbolic form from "single dimension of text" to "integration of sound and image",the logical transformation of reading from "word by word" to "clearness","penetration" to "explicit presentation" of knowledge form conversion and thinking operation conversion from "linear aggregation" to "non-linear divergence".Based on the dimension of dynamic,the driving force of the image turn of Chinese reading teaching is technology.Since technology extends humans' cognition,visual symbols convey meaning through "encapsulation" and "interpretation",and then organize meaning through reproduction,presentation,narrative and rhetoric,andthen bringing out the visual encoding and decoding of content.The fifth chapter is method selection.Based on the macro-level,this research proposes the concepts of “explaining text by images”,“conveying meaning by images”,and “carrying morality by images”,andthen promotes the development of teaching methods,content and paradigms.Based on the meso-level,this research puts forward four suggestions: use images to achieve reading teaching goals,use images to deepen reading teaching content,use images to enrich reading teaching processes,use images to optimize reading teaching evaluation,andthen improve the effectiveness of Chinese reading teaching in the image era.Based on the micro-level,this research proposes some reading strategies,teaching strategies,and technical strategies about image reading teaching,in order to improve students' critical abilities and visual literacy,and promote the development of curriculum reform,and also enrich teenagers' reading resources.Finally,We hope that,this research can promote the development of Chinese reading teaching towards a scientific direction,and make image's educational charm can blooming in the field of Chinese reading teaching.
