Against the backdrop of ecological globalization, the supply chain,as an important component of modern human production activities, has a significant impact on the environment. To obtain sustainable competitive advantages, supply chain firms have to start paying attention to their own environmental performance, the resulting environmental strategy has become a vital issue in both academia and industry.Although some scholars have proposed that policy regulation brings strong external pressure on companies’ green behavior, forcing them to effectively integrate internal resources, the static perspective used in a large number of existing studies cannot provide sufficient explanations for the practical path and mechanisim of environmental strategies for supply chain firms.Due to the lack of more adaptable dynamic analysis that suits China’s national conditions and industries, the study of environmental strategies for China’s supply chain firms is still in a relatively early stage. This study focuses on the practice mechanisms of environmental strategies for supply chain firms.Specifically, starting from China’ s supply chain firms, this study combines classical theories, using a dynamic perspective to discuss 1)the impact of environmental regulation on the formation of environmental strategies for supply chain firms;2)the relationship between environmental regulation and green technological innovation in the practice of environmental strategies for supply chain firms;3)the mechanisms of green information technology(GIT)and green human resource management(GHRM)in the practice of environmental strategies for supply chain firms;and 4)the impact of managers’ green consciousness on the practice process of environmental strategies for supply chain firms.Four sub-studies were conducted corresponding to each of the above research topics. The first sub-study is the "Dynamic collaboration between environmental strategy and pricing strategy in supply chain firms:A game analysis based on environmental regulation".Drawing on institutional theory, this study explores the dynamic collaboration mechanism between the manufacturers and retailers in the supply chain under environmental regulations. The study divides the supply chain into integrated and decentralized scenarios and uses the Stackelberg differential game model to formulate and solve the relationships among environmental performance, environmental regulatory level, and pricing strategy of supply chain firms under both contexts and compare the equilibrium trajectory functions and steady-state solutions of the key variables.Subsequently, the study introduces the two-part tariff as a management tool and uses the Nash bargaining model to discuss its role in the dynamic collaboration of the supply chain.Through model result analysis and numerical simulation, this study finds that environmental regulations can effectively intervene in the pricing strategy of supply chain firms and have a direct impact on the dynamic collaboration process of various roles in the supply chain, making it an important factor in promoting the formation of environmental strategies in supply chain firms. The second sub-study is the“Impact of environmental regulations on green technology innovation in supply chain firms:An empirical analysis based on industry panel data".Building on the previous study, this research further examines the relationship between environmental regulations and green technology innovation in supply chain firms’ environmental strategy practices.Specifically, this study is based on ecological modernization theory and related classical research to construct an econometric model. The study utilized 1,333 valid panel data from 95 China’s supply chain listed firms from 2004 to 2021.The fixed effects model was used to test the proposed hypotheses, and heterogeneity analysis was conducted through multiple dimensions. The study also conducted robustness tests using various methods and introduced instrumental variables for endogeneity testing to ensure the robustness of the results obtained..The research results support the U-shaped relationship between environmental regulations and green technology innovation in supply chain firms and demonstrate that green technology innovation is an important environmental strategy practice for firms to cope with environmental regulations. The third sub-study is the "Research on the path of environmental strategy practice in supply chain firms:The complementary mediating effect of green information technology and green human resource management".The study delves into the mechanism through which environmental strategies impact environmental performance, based on resource-based view and dynamic capability theory.A theoretical model framework was proposed, and empirical data was collected through a questionnaire survey of 429 firms from China’s warehousing and logistics industry.Structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed model. Results supported the hypothesis that environmental strategy has a direct positive impact on environmental performance, and an indirect positive impact through the mediating effects of GIT and GHRM.In addition, the study analyzed historical literature to suggest that the dynamic complementarity of GIT and GHRM is an important aspect of environmental strategy implementation. The existence of both forms of practice creates a dynamic complementarity of resource capability, which helps supply chain firms to enhance their environmental performance. The fourth sub-study is the "Research on the moderating effect of managers’ green consciousness on supply chain firms’ environmental strategy practice".The study supplements the research on the boundary conditions of environmental strategy practice in supply chain firms.Based on resource-based view and upper echelons theory, the conceptual framework proposed in the third sub-study was improved, and the new hypothesis was tested using questionnaire surveys and structural equation modeling with industry data. The results show that managers’ green consciousness has a positive moderating effect on the path of environmental strategy practice in supply chain firms, and at the same time has a positive impact on both tangible and intangible resource capabilities,i.e.,GIT and GHRM.In addition, managers’ green consciousness can effectively allocate internal resources in firms, enabling better coordination of GIT and GHRM,thus improving environmental performance at the organizational level. This study enriches the research on the environmental strategy practice path of supply chain firms. It applies dynamic perspectives to explain the mechanism of environmental strategy implementation in supply chain firms.Specifically, this study’s main innovation points are reflected in three aspects:(1)This study enriches the research on the influencing factors of environmental strategy in supply chain firms and reveals the mechanism of environmental regulation affecting the pricing strategy and revenue of firms, thus promoting the formation of environmental strategy. This study reveals that pressure from environmental regulation will cause supply chain firms to dynamically adjust their pricing strategies based on environmental performance and promote the formation of an equilibrium model that balances their environmental inputs and actual profits,i.e.,environmental strategy. On the other hand,by examining the pricing strategies and profit changes of manufacturers and retailers in different scenarios in the supply chain, this study further verifies the process by which environmental regulation affects environmental strategy.Furthermore, based on these findings, this study provides a specific management tool and game plans for the dynamic collaboration development of economic and environmental performance among various roles in the supply chain firms.(2)This study explores the important role of GHRM in the implementation of firms’environmental strategies, based on dynamic capability theory, which supplements the fixed perspective of resourcebased view.Firstly, this study first clarifies the importance of green technology for environmental strategic practices in supply chain firms, and then proposes that improving environmental performance depends not only on green technology-related resource capabilities, but also on GHRM capabilities.GHRM is also a key factor for the effective execution of environmental strategies, ensuring the effectiveness of other non-human resource factors.Specifically,GIT provides the technical foundation and evaluation sources for GHRM,while GHRM provides effective execution guarantees and a green cultural atmosphere for GIT,complementing each other to provide important support for the implementation of environmental strategies. The study regards GIT as tangible resources and GHRM as intangible resources and proposes that the success of firm strategies relies on the clever combination of both of them, rather than the utilization of any single resource.(3)This study not only explores the process of environmental strategy practice in firms, but also clarifies its boundary conditions, specifically the role of managers’ traits in environmental strategy implementation.Considering the unique operational situations of warehousing and logistics companies in China, this study proposes that although the managers responsible for firm operations did not participate in strategy formulation, they play a crucial moderating role in environmental strategy implementation.Based on this, the conceptual framework was further improved, and the study filled the gap in the existing literature on microlevel environmental strategy implementation research.
