Research On The Academic Thought Of Professor Liji’ "Prescritions Of Great Medicine"

The principles of formulating prescription is an important part of the theoretical system of pharmacology of traditional Chinese medical formulae.However,doctors and scholars through the ages have different understandings of the principles of formulating prescription,so that there has been much academic disputes in this field.In order to solve this problem,Professor Li Ji integrated and perfected the principles of formulating prescription and compatibility of drugs on the basis of the "Formulation for Drug Potency" proposed by himself,and put forward the academic thought in his book "The Prescriptions of Great Medicine".The study of this subject has far-reaching influence on guiding clinical creation of new prescriptions.The objects of this study contains two parts:first,relevant expositions and application examples concerning a principle of formulating prescription named "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher(which refers to the principal,assistant,adjuvant and dispatcher herbs constituting a formula)";second,the book written by Professor Li Ji-"The Prescriptions of Great Medicine".This study consists of three parts:first,"monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher" principle and the potency of principal herbs;second,"Formulation for Drug Potency";third,"The effective use of formulating prescriptions lies in changing correspondingly." This study will analyze and interpret the contents mentioned above theoretically and practically from a philosophical perspective.What’s more,it will carry out in-depth discussions on "techniques and principles of formulating prescriptions".The research conclusions are as follows:1."The potency of principal herbs" is the refinement and sublimation of the "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher"principle.It interprets prescriptions made under the guidance of other principles rather than the "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher" principle.What’s more,it reveals the essence and core of the "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher" principle and highlights the characteristics of "Time is the criterion for life" in traditional Chinese culture.The proposal of "the potency of principal herbs" fundamentally solves the problem that the thinking of doctors while formulating prescriptions is easily solidified and restricted under the influence of the "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher" principle.2.The "Formulation for Drug Potency" expresses non-linear concept from practice in the form of a linear equation.It reflects a state where doctors pursue changing correspondingly by formulating prescriptions.There are many factors influencing this formulation,such as Chinese medicinal materials,the patient’s body,and the doctor.As a matter of fact,it is not an abstract generalization itself but a detailed expression,which makes various factors affecting the drug’s potency relatively static,easy to be dominated,and intuitively presented for mastering and application with the help of simplified thinking.The proposal of the "Formulation for Drug Potency" has further enriched and perfected the "monarch,minister,adjuvant and dispatcher" principle,and resolved the academic community’s controversy over the cognition of the essence of medical potency.Analysis to determine the compatibility of a certain prescription is based on Drug Potency,and its core is "the potency of principal herbs".3."The effective use of formulating prescriptions lies in changing correspondingly".Changing correspondingly is the intrinsic motivation is of this thought and it determines the addition and subtraction while formulating prescriptions.The principle of this thought reflects the philosophy of Taoism.4.Techniques of formulating prescriptions is obtained through learning and accumulation,while principles of formulating prescriptions,a reflection of Tao,are acquired through understanding.For one thing,according to Taoism,Tao is the fountainhead of everything in the world,so are principles of formulating prescriptions.For another,this two aspects,techniques and principles of formulating prescriptions,follow the law of the unity of opposites.Therefore,the key to formulating prescriptions lies in the doctor managing the relationship between the two aspects,like what Li Er said,"the way people understand today’s life depends on whether they master rules from the past".
