Historical Research Of Lü Zhenyu

Lü,Zhenyu was one of the most famous historians in 20th century.He had pioneered in many fields of history,which made great contributions to the establishment and development of historical materialism system in China.With the transformation of historical narrative pattern,historical research becomes much more diversified.Under this circumstance,reexamining the success and failure of Lü Zhenyu’s historical research model is conducive to the sound development of history.Lü Zhenyu was born in a farm family for generations,the influence of his family background and his early attempts at "anarchism" and "village governance" gave him a clear understanding of Chinese society,which was the the practical origin of Lü Zhenyu’s historiography.The guidance of historical materialist scholars promoted the construction of Lü Zhenyu’s historical theoretical methods.In1930s,Lü Zhenyu established a Marxist worldview,and under this guidance,he formed a unique historical system.Lü Zhenyu’s historical research covers a wide range of fields.Among them,prehistoric history,"Asian mode of production" and slave society,Chinese political thought history,and ethnic history are the four most systematic,representative,and creative aspects.Lü’s Prehistoric Chinese Social Studies is a pioneering work to systematically study Chinese prehistoric history under the guidance of historical materialism.By using Morgan’s monistic evolution,Marxist historical materialism,and Mr.Wang Guowei’s "dual evidence method",he restored the life style of ancient ancestors and criticized "the Chinese national culture with western origin",which contributed to the construction of the theory of the types of the origin of the Chinese civilization.After the publication of Prehistoric Chinese Social Studies,it has been very influential,and the critics have been enthusiastic.Lü Zhenyu’s understanding of "Asian mode of production" has gone through a process of maturing from"feudal system variant theory" to"slavery society theory",and through Chinese Society in the Yin and Zhou Era,he elaborated on the form of slavery society,which provided historical support to the study of Marxist social formation theory.Facing the "cultural encirclement and suppression" and attacks on Marxism in the 1930s,Lü Zhenyu started the study of the history of Chinese political thought and created a new paradigm for the study of the history of thought.Lü’s History of Chinese Political Thoughts explains thoughts in a social context,and divides the times by social forms,which has a quite clear vein.However,his simplification of the understanding of class struggle has affected the academic significance of his work to a certain extent.The study of Chinese national history is another field pioneered by Lü Zhenyu.In order to fundamentally criticize Chiang Kai-shek’s The Destiny of China,adapt to the needs of changes in the domestic situation,and clarify the false influence of Han chauvinism academically,Lü Zhenyu has conducted discussions and studies on the historical development of more than 20 ethnic groups in China,written and published A Brief History of Chinese Nation which is the first work that uses Marxist viewpoints to study Chinese national history,represents a new research direction,and has very important academic value.Looking at Lü Zhenyu’s historiography in general,there are three dimensions of his historiography,namely,the combination of seeking truth and application,writing the history of the people,focusing on economy and society.Lü Zhenyu’s historiography fully expresses the practical qualities of historical materialism,breaks the boundary between subjectivity and objectiveness,which is of great significance to the current academic world.He also reasonably used a set of scientific theoretical methods,recognized the law of the development of human history,and used the principle of "generality" and "particularity" to place the relationship between China and the world.Meanwhile,his historical studies are limited by the times,and there are also deficiencies and limitations of dogmatism and formulism on some issues.The revolutionary impulse obscures academic rationality to a certain degree,resulting in a certain degree of unbalance between revolutionary politics and academic rationality.
